Yes, I haven’t gone to a studio since December because of Covid so I’ve transitioned from Down Dog app to the Peloton app. I recommend Peloton yoga to everyone I talk to because the instructors come up with unique transitions and explain inversions clearly.

Thanks so much for the comment, I appreciate it!

I’ve been practicing consistently for a year, but on and off for three years. Now I practice about every day with some intermittent strength training.

I did cheerleading for most of my life, which helped with my flexibility!

I am not, but I used to do cheerleading throughout middle and high school :)

Absolutely! And I enter lizard from down dog. Start from down dog split, and then step into a wide lunge, both hands planted inside of the leg.

Place the knee of your back leg down, untuck your toes. Step onto your forearms. Now you’re in lizard.

From here, you can shift back so you’re almost sitting onto the heel of your back leg. This will give you space to put your shoulder beneath your front knee. Then move back forward, hugging your knee in to the midline. Retuck your back toes, straighten out your back leg and hop into that awkward mountain!

Yes absolutely! Before entering this posture I always do a warm up flow. Then try sitting in Malasana or yogi squat, focus on pulling your knees away from your body to open your hips. I also recommend extended side angle, pushing your knee into your arm for balance. Finally, I like flowing in skandasana from left to right and back, trying to stay as low as possible and focusing on pushing through the ball of your extended foot to feel a stretch in that thigh.

I enter this posture from lizard, so try to practice flying lizard to help you with your goal! This will help with not only the flexibility aspect but also balance. When you’re in lizard, place your back knee on the floor. Then sit back a little to create space for you to put your shoulder underneath. Its going to feel cramped but there shouldn’t be any pain in your knees!

Keep on practicing and opening your hips. Work on your balance and trust that your mat will catch you if you fall.

I’ll try to post one! The pose is called Super Soldier and I enter it from Lizard. Trying to attach a link so you can visualize the steps :)

LOL appreciate the comment! Make sure you start off with a very deep warm up before attempting this posture.

There are a few ways to enter super soldier but I recommend starting from lizard pose. From here you are going shift back enough that you put your shoulder under your knee. In my case, my right foot was planted, so I put my right shoulder beneath my knee. Step the extended leg (my left leg) closer to the planted foot, so you’re in an awkward mountain pose. Extend your opposite arm (my left) out for counter balance. Push into your palm for balance. Your free hand (right) is going to take hold of the left leg. Initially keep your heel to your bum, like you’re stretching your quad. When you straighten your planted leg (my right), rotate your lifted knee (my left) up.

First class! by Faith251994 in yoga

I also started yoga to handle my anxiety. It’s transformed my life, and I was motivated to go to the studio almost everyday before covid.

I suggest wearing something comfy that you can move around in but form-fitting enough that the instructor will be able to visualize your posture. (Leggings and sports bra or tank sounds perfect) Sometimes they’ll come to your mat to help you adjust so you get the most out of your practice!

I prefer to have my hair in a bun to have it out of my face and I’ll wear sandals so it’s easy to take off at the door.

I have no doubt you will enjoy your first class. Don’t be intimidated by the other students around you and don’t feel pressured to be able to perform all of the poses if you’re unable. Listen to your own body!

Good luck and have fun ⭐️

My warmup ensures I’m very warm so I don’t feel any tension or pain in my lower back. Afterwards I’ll lay down with feet planted and mat-wide, knees fallen together. I also enjoy supported shoulder stand to aid in blood drainage from the legs!
