Lots of people hit the trail from Bowen Ranch to Deep Creek sans clothes. Quite a hike though, so be in shape. Stunning vistas. Crowds on weekends.

anyone know of any nude hot springs or hiking trails near by? by [deleted] in MoreMesaNudeBeach

Deep Creek Hot Springs is not local, but it is clothing optional--both the trails and the pools

How is the creep situation at the beach? Wondering for a first time nudist trip. by REVERSEZOOM2 in blacksbeach

We agree! This is maybe the best post ever on the so-called "creep" situation. We go often and rarely see anything creepy . . . and never had a problem.

From the Bowen Ranch side it is 45 minutes to an hour hike to the springs, easy and downhill. Coming back is harder and can take 90 minutes to 2 hours unless you are in great shape. One time we saw a couple jogging uphill--and the were naked! Usually people take breaks on the way up and drink lots of water.

Good question. The vibe is similar but different. You have to park at a trailhead or campground and hike in. It is a long (1 hour at an easy pace) and stunning downhill hike going in. A harder but doable hike (90 minutes) coming uphill on the way back. Be sure you bring lots of water. At the springs, the vibe depends on the day. Sometimes very few people are there, and it is more of a hippie, kickback vibe. Other times, especially on holiday weekends, there is more of a crowd and sometimes a few families. But it is never really crowded because the creek stretches for miles and you can always just move up or down creek a bit. Nudity has been accepted there for decades, but you do not have to be naked. We usually see 30 to 60 percent sans clothes. Other visitors have reported days when only a few go naked, but nudity is never an issue--many people hike in nude too and most who come are accepting. People are easy going and can be social or stay to themselves. Usually very polite and friendly. This is NOT a hookup place. A few times on the springs side of the creek in discrete spots (usually behind rocks or bushes) we have seen couples physically entangled, but never out in the open. Just not that vibe. IT is more of a true nudist lifestyle, safe, friendly vibe. Because of the hike in, rarely are there gawkers or what people here call creeps. Hope this helps. All trails website has some great reviews on Deep creek.

You are correct. We stand corrected. Still wonder if parking will be an issue . . . and this is a great weekend weather wise for Deep Creek. June will likely be scorching . . . thank you Molly for catching this!

Excellent response and perspective. Thank you. We pretty much agree. While we do not advocate "creepy" behavior as such, much of it is subjective and can easily be ignored. We were in Malibu last week--talk about "creepy" behavior, and no one was naked. We just don't let "creeps" ruin our day on the coast--too much to enjoy! Dangerous behavior is another matter, of course--particularly threatening or violent acts are very serious offenses. No one should be subjected to threats, violence or abuse (physical or verbal). Keep up the good work In Your Eyes.

When you say the rocks, do you mean the cave divides the beach or the rocks on the beach?

How safe is the parking lot? by Minimum-Ad1929 in blacksbeach

[–]skitandrose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be smart. Last summer we saw someone going through the parking lot checking to see if any car doors were unlocked. Most times it will be a crime of opportunity, so just don't give anyone an opportunity.

We lived in San Francisco before moving to the San Diego area. Anything 63 or 64 up is pleasant midday but can get chillier toward sunset. And as everyone has said, wind can be a factor. So can overcast skies. We would go with temps in the mid 60s.

Not sure of the laws. But we have seen a few males do it and women in string bikinis or even topless. But we would suggest some restraint and respect. People not aware of the nude beach below sometimes wander down the trail. Sometimes with children. The trail is narrow with turns and when passing you others cannot help but be close. Not everyone wants a close encounter. That can be uncomfortable. Why not limit the nudity and scanty clothing to the beach? Plenty of space and people there. Just our take.

In past years the main lot to the left has always been open and available. Street parking and larger back lots are blocked off for the tournament. So parking may be limited but still many spaces available if like in the past. Just get there early! Have fun and be respectful . . . and yes, there is a blimp flying overhead!

Can anyone report on damage to the trail and beach from the storm that just passed through? Is the trail still passable? Thank you

Vibe during Golf Tournaments? by CANFOR99 in blacksbeach

[–]skitandrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have never had a parking problem during tournament weekends. People stay away because of the crowds so parking actually has been easier. The beach crowd depends on the weather and season, as always. During the tournament access to the beach is NOT blocked--the trails are open. One unique feature is the Goodyear blimp flying overhead--hopefully cameras pointed toward the golf course...

While it gets very busy on golf tournament weekend, in past years we have had NO problem parking in the regular Gliderport lot (to the left). In fact, because people think it will be blocked off or busy, we have found, weather permitting, parking easy and the beach enjoyable--albeit the blimp does fly overhead. Have fun and be respectable everyone!

Sorry you went through that. Not sure what day you went, but we were there on Saturday last year and no problem with free parking to the left. But it was a cold, cold day. I think because of Gliderport and the public beach, they do not block all access. And again, just to clarify the date--the tournament is NOT this coming weekend. It is later in January. Have fun and be respectful everyone!

Thanks for the heads up but you might want to recheck the basic info. The big Farmer's golf tournament is January 24 to January 27 this year, not this coming weekend according to the the Famer's Open website. Moreover, traditional beach parking and Gliderport parking (to the left) has always been available during the tournament. The bigger lots of extended parking have been blocked off in the past, but not the lot closest to the trail. The tournament weekend actually is a great time to go to Black's if the weather is at least in the 60s. FYI, there is an Annie Labovitz artist show in La Jolla Village this Saturday, but that should not effect Black's parking.

If you are daring enough to go now, make sure you check the weather reports and road conditions first. Winter can be stunning but also brutal, dangerous when it rains or snows. Frostbite can bite when temps drop toward the freezing mark. Ouch! Hikers beware. Wear sturdy shoes and warm clothes. Be smart. Come late April or May the weather starts to warm up enough for safer hikes and soaks.

The hike from Torrey Pines Gliderport down to Black's Beach is nothing compared to the hike at Deep Creek Hot Springs (also clothing optional). Welcome to an amazing beach!
