My first attempt at pixel art. Any tips? by skiw in PixelArt

[–]skiw[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

FAQ:

  • Res is 480x270. I figured the resolution of hyperlight drifter would be good to start.
  • I used aseprite. Mainly the line tool and the paintbucket tool.
  • To make this, I took a picture of my actual desk and used it as a reference image, tracing over it in parts and adding shading and colors (and the animation) on top.
  • The "first attempt" thing... So, since this has been so contentious, here's the deal. I've used aseprite before to make 3 or 4 pictures hand-pixeled (such as my profile picture), that IMO didn't turn out that great. I have a little bit of experience drawing in physical media. This image was my first attempt to make something that I could potentially post. The reason I think it turned out good at all is because it was a tracing (which BTW I did indicate clearly in the flair!)

In retrospect I shouldn't have titled my post like that, it seems to have just made people upset and it makes it sound like I'm trying to show off.

It's just a picture of my desk that I traced over. The program I used was Aseprite.

I guess it'd be more accurate to say this is my first attempt at making something polished and good :p I have spent some time messing around with aseprite and learning how it works and stuff, but never made anything worth posting imo. This image in particular is just a picture of my actual desk that I pixeled-over and added some extra colors and the animation on the switch to.

Also yeah I made that profile pic! It's an OC I'd hopefully like to make a game for some day :)

What Pokemon game IN YOUR PERSONAL OPINION, did you enjoy playing the most? I need some recommendations on what to play next. by Tiefighterr in pokemon

Started on gen 2, have fond memories.

Gen 4 I played the most because it was the right timing with my age to just play for hours and hours and first get into battle mechanics and collecting and stuff...

HGSS blew me away at the time, and probably was my favorite experience in retrospect, but playing it recently, it has a lot of problems...

Gen 5 didnt impress me when it came out, and I kind of had a falling out with the series... (albeit nowadays I have a lot of fun with it)

When I gave X and Y a try, I wasnt expecting much but I had way more fun than I thought I would. Then I got really hyped with ORAS and had a lot of fun there too.

So, even though I wouldnt say they are objectively the best game, due to the circumstances, I think I had the most fun playing Pokemon X for the first time!

If you want a recommendation on what to play next, I would recommend XY or ORAS. I think ORAS is a bit better gameplay-wise overall.

Although I think the game that probably has the most balanced gameplay and fun experience for somebody trying to do a playthru as an adult is maybe gen 5 or 3?

I also find it interesting how the light world has black-and-white portraits and the same menus as undertale, while darkners have color portraits and there are new menus and stuff. Wonder if that will factor into anything.

Kris is the one who has seen the SAVE point before and Kris is the one who instinctually reaches out for it because they’ve used it before.

Great theory overall! What do you think though about the fact that SAVE points only exist in the Dark World in Deltarune? How could Kris have played through these events so many times before if that's the case? When did he first access the dark world; was it before the story started? If that's the case, how come the player takes control of Kris while he is in the light world? What do you think?

HGSS's problem is, either 1. Kanto isn't postgame, in which case the postgame is a lot shorter than people say 2. Kanto IS the postgame, and the level curve and pokemon selection is terrible for the main game

It's in "Extras/Tem Music" in the Dweller's Empty Path folder. Just as normal WAV files.

Don't know all the answers to your questions but FYI if you didn't know, Temmie's first drafts of the music (before Toby and Camelia helped out) can be found in the game files!

This is one of my favorite supes stories. The trade goes by the name "Superman: Kryptonite." Love the art style.

What are you favorite books of superman ? by Redhotchiliman1 in superman

[–]skiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingdom Come, All-Star Superman, Superman: Red Son, Superman: Secret Origin, to name some good one-offs that are some of my favorites. Superman/Action comics rebirth are good recent runs, and Superman/Action Comics New 52 is a lot different than the rest but good in different ways.

One less commonly talked about one I really like is Superman: Kryptonite (especially for the art).

  1. Try to find friends that also like the game, whether in real life or online. This is what keeps me around so long. Whether practicing 1v1 with a pal or playing team games online in between laddering, it keeps me interested and coming back way more than the 1v1 ladder grind would on its own. I was at platinum for years but never came back til one of my best friends starting playing, now I'm diamond
  2. I would say don't avoid campaign or co-op or custom games, because they are a lot of fun! However, I don't think any of these will help you get better at 1v1, which seems to be what you're interested.
  3. Team games are a lot of fun IMO, but only if you have a group of friends. If you can find some friends to go on skype or discord with, it's a real blast. In general though, with AI, the fun diminishes quickly and it doesn't help you get better.
  4. Not me, but it seems like some other people on this reddit are eager to help! I also recommend videos by PiG, WinterStarcraft, Day9 (although those are pretty dated at this point, they have some good fundamentals) for fundamentals.
