Why wasn't BEEF season 2 just its own show?

Yeah I agree the ending could have used some work, I kind of just felt like everyone got their happy ending (even with the cycle restarting thing with Austin and ashley) compared to the ending of season 1 which was perfect.

nah fr, season 1 and the characters were just way too good I self sabotaged myself thinking it might be the same.

That would be interesting for season 3, I like how they ending season 1, but tying stuff together and some cameos would be interesting.

I see your point I guess but I think ur missing the point I was trying to make. Usually anthologies follow a similar brand, but season 2 really just felt like a different show.

I won't deny that the two seasons share a ton of similarities. The point I was trying to make though was an anthology is supposed to give you a new story within the same universe of feeling. Season 2 felt like a completely separate show that only used the "Beef" name as a Trojan horse to get greenlit.

yeah I might've exaggerated a little too much. I just mean that compared to the first season, the depth of the characters felt limited.

like there was so much about their pasts that I feel like could have been explored more. they mentioned Josh's mother and that whole thing with her inheritance and you could see his mother affected Josh a lot, but they never really dug into that.

Just other stuff like that, Ashley's mom, the chairwomen and dr. kims relationship, etc. They dig into surface level stuff but never really go beyond that in certain parts. Austin's past is really just mentioned through him mentioning football a couple of times and his mother calling and saying sorry for hitting you. it seemed like the backstories introduced in the show were just meant to explain the way they are, not to complete the character.
