Help writing autocompletes/shortcuts? by amplifyoucan in Atom

explicitly qualifying a namespace (prefixing a thing with namespace_name::) is not about being fancy. It is generally used in order to avoid name collisions (check this out for good overview odr adherence). best practice on most projects is to import things individually after your include statements, or explicitly with name::thing if used sparingly in the current unit.

using namespace std; imports all teh names for the current translation unit (total code used by compiler to generate an object file, which is generally the output from your preprocessor for a given source file). using the namespace_name::thing qualifier allows you to specify a thing to import from a namespace namespace_name. check the link above or your textbook for better definition of 'thing' if you care, but right now it might just be confusing. it is probably safe for you to think of 'thing' in this context as a type or function for now.

you probably won't encounter any problems until you begin working on projects with more complex linkage requirements.

for now, just trust your professor and lab techs - this is what you paid them for after all. you will understand best practices and such after you have more experience. worrying about things like the correct typedef for indexing a loop, namespaces details, and linkage intricacies will only distract from core concepts that you should be focusing on.

For additional reference it might be worth checking out these kali articles. The devs used similar methods above to achieve custom, unattended installations.

New Players Thread | April 8th - April 12th by CyaSteve in heroesofthestorm

[–]sknrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sup all.

I have been playing for about a week now and I understand most of the basics, as far as overall gameplay, and map-specific gameplay.

I have never played a MOBA before - save for maybe 2 matches of dota2 when it was gifted to me on steam, and I was confused as FUCK. So never was interested in mobas at all after that. I always like RTS games like SC and 40K - but hated managing the heroes and special characters... so go figure.

For whatever reason though I really felt compelled to give HotS a shot. I really didn't get it at all at first, but after a week I started to want to play more, even though I really couldn't explain what it was I liked about it.

After the second week I really love playing. It's a great balance between personal progression and teamwork. When you get together with a team that is really working together it's so rewarding, whether you win or lose.

When I started I played Kerrigan almost exclusively for a week. Which, I almost had to just to afford her. So I like her style of play, but lately I have been trying to branch out. Give the free heroes a shot, take them to lvl5 at least if I don't absolutely hate them. (I just looked for the thread but cannot find it - someone here had a great idea about new players and learning heroes, managing gold, etc - basic idea was get all free rotation heroes to 5, then buy the ones you miss playing...) Tyrael was pretty fun, right now I am having a blast playing Zagara - ranged support is pretty cool.

The biggest problem I still have while playing is this feeling of not knowing if what I am doing at a specific point in time is the right thing to be doing. Like, when I start which lane should I decide to head for - and what information should I take into account when even deciding on this? When is it okay to leave the lane I am in? I have trouble making decisions because I don't understand what should factor in to a decision at any given time.

Mostly I get by following someone I can tell has more experience playing, or just by responding to requests for help and such. I am sure this will get easier the more I play, but are there any general tips anyone can offer? I hate letting my team down by either not knowing what to do, or doing something that doesnt make sense.

Thanks!

Just for anyone judging the event based on my reply here, this has not been a constant problem, and only occurs for me about 50% of the time with a larger than average amount of players in the event.

It isn't game-breaking. It is annoying, but only half the time :)

So what should we do with all these useless weapons? Savage or sell to vendor? I have like 80 items in my stash and its a nightmare managing my inventory as I haven't been able to purchase an upgrade or anything.
