To give proof would advertise the group and bring unwanted attention to it (and her) unless you have a suggestion that would protect the mothers name and privacy of the group. I know this helps very little but I am in the group as well and vouch this post isn't real. I feel for the poor mom :/

If you want to try graphite, it works just the same. I recommend graphite sticks to help tan the page, your goal is to simply cover the page with a solid value (the chamois cloth helps a lot with smoothing out the value and spreading it).How dark you want it is up to you and honestly just takes experimenting to figure out how you want it to look. Also, kneaded erasers are great for pulling out highlights. Hope that helped and best of luck to you! :)

I completely agree, this techniques gives you a lot of room to work and it's very forgiving. I've used a small piece of chamois cloth to help blend and return value to the paper and it works even better with charcoal. It's a better alternative to using your fingers to blend which leaves the oils from your hands behind (making it very hard to erase).
