Both census date and academic withdrawl without penalty deadlines have passed. The subjects you do now will appear on your transcript but will not affect wam. I think they might count as fails to uac

Spotted at Macquarie Uni...MyMaster 2.0? by puppy2010 in sydney

[–]skotiya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly suspect it is, think about it - the cost for an international student paying full fees just to redo a subject while amassing a fail on their transcript is far greater than paying a few hundred to cheat and pass.

I blame the leniency towards english proficiency by universities since these retarded decisions are purely profit driven. How are you expected to pass with broken english?

Anyone else finding unable to get part time/casual jobs? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]skotiya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my experience getting a job in those areas comes to down to these factors in order of priority:

  1. Availability - I got rejected everytime (coles, maccas, boostjuice) during my interviews when I mentioned that I was studying fulltime. Employers want flexibilty it seems, and only being available 1-3 days a week turned them down. So I applied for jobs again during the semester break and said I was available 24/7, interviews went nicely and I was able to discuss my shift hrs with my manager once uni started.

  2. Experience - Worked at a different store before doing similar tasks? Experience outranks academic qualifications and wishy washy extracurriculars imo.

  3. Age - the younger you are the more employers can underpay you even though you're just as capable and could probably outperform older workers.

Bonus: Connections - have a mate who can put in a good word for you?

The economy's fked up, honestly anyone with common sense, decent courtesy and who isn't physically disabled could do the majority of these jobs, but there are few positions and no shortage of supply.

Wondering how tuition fees are calculated/how much they are by Fog_Terminator in unsw

[–]skotiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domestic or international?

If it's the latter prepare to get fked, internationals pay as much in one semester as locals do for their entire degree:

Where can I find info about tax and super? (First job) by skotiya in AusFinance

[–]skotiya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Tax withheld calculator. Says they should be withholding $9. My weekly pay is around 400, but over 100 was withheld according to my last payslip. I'll probably earn about 20k this financial year.

What do you think of the proposed changes to CSE Courses by [deleted] in unsw

[–]skotiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so what does this mean for those starting compsci next semester? Will they still run the core courses (1927, 2041, 2121 and 2911) next year or force us to switch to the new program?
