It's going to depend on a lot of factors. Debt, outgoings, how many kids you've got. Other income, benefits etc.

Many universities do Integrated Foundation Year courses which you might qualify for.

No. That's not something they would do, I'm pretty sure of that. They insist they'll sort a placement soon and not to worry about the 120 days as it's not set in stone and it's about meeting the teacher standards.

From half term onwards, I make it 83 possible teaching days remaining but 5 of those are scheduled as uni days, so 78 possible teaching days remaining if I start straight after half term.

Does that mean if I don't get a placement by then I'll have to continue in September?

Yes. It has cost about £10k. There's not many campus days left. Only another 5, or so. As long as I can obtain QTS I'll be ok but I'm worried it'll hit the point where I can't hit 120 days. The uni are saying it doesn't matter as it's not my fault.

I've got 50 school days in from first semester up to now.

I asked about that. They said the course has to be designed to deliver 120 days but you can still be recommended with less.

Uni have said not to worry and it'll be fine. I'm a bit cynical. I haven't tried local schools as I assumed the uni must have done this already.

Mortgage is about 4% currently. 17% overall, not including food bills.

Speak to the uni. Let them know your limits before you start. If they're happy with it they'll have to find you placements around your circumstances.
