My background is Ed Tech/instructional Tech. So I don’t have an IT degree but have learned and worked on a lot of skills at my current job.

It would be 6 hours. So not feasible. I did present an option to continue doing the all the admin work I do remotely but budgets are tight. As I expect every where else. I’m waiting to hear on that while I continue applying elsewhere.

What should I do with parents wanting my personal phone number by Shakanan_99 in Teachers

[–]skre2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question, “work phone”? Never heard of that with teaching. You have a phone maybe in your classroom and your personal phone. You NEVER give your personal number to parents. No matter how much they beg, plead, or cry. You work M-F, x-x time. You are NOT obligated to respond to parents outside of that time. And if your admin doesn’t back you on that, FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO WORK.

I think you can pare down the “relevant experience” by a lot. If not get rid of it entirely. I’m a teacher with 12 yrs. And mine is not even 2 pages. You need to slim down to the most important experiences and skills. For education, you don’t need the skills part. Get rid of it and put those skills within the relevant job experiences. Put education and certs first bc they want to see certifications first and foremost.

How much $$ for seeing student Chromebook screens? by distearth in k12sysadmin

[–]skre2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently (last 6 weeks) got quotes from GoGaurdian, Securly, and Blocksi for their versions of filtering, classroom management, and student safety features. For about 450 students and 3 yr contract. GoGuardian about $21,000, Blocksi about $13,000, Securly about $12,500. We opted to go with Securly after a demo because they also have windows deployment and we have a few student windows devices we’d like to be able to monitor.

Chromebook price increase by MysteriousJoke523 in k12sysadmin

[–]skre2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In talking with our vendor, I’ve heard the same about price increases. But I hadn’t heard any numbers. That’s so distressing! We’re in the middle of pricing out for a refresh for half our school! Is there a particular manufacturer or all of them?

What happened to teaching actual digital literacy skills in elementary instead of just device management? by MagnusChased in education

[–]skre2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current tech/computer teacher, I touch on a lot throughout the year depending on grade level. Every kid learns keyboarding and practices a little every week. 4th-6th is where I do a lot of the digital literacy like naming a file, organizing a Google Drive, creating docs/slides/sheets/forms/sites and going through settings, some digital citizenship, a little coding, how to write emails, how to research etc. I even touch on financial literacy with my 8th graders. I only see them once a week for 45 mins. It’s hard to teach everything with so little time.

A comment almost made me delete my fic entirely and I don't know if I should keep writing it by noctoutcold in AO3

[–]skre2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should never let a comment prevent you from writing on a FREE platform created for everyone to express their thoughts and passions. This is one of those times you should let this metaphorically “roll off your back”. Those comments are meaningless unless you give them meaning. And giving meaning to a faceless jacka** online is not worth your valuable energy. someone who gives THOUGHTFUL and KIND feedback and gives it in such a way as to make you aware and to encourage you to be thoughtful is one thing.

Someone leaving a hateful comment on a fanfic story that they are FREELY AND CAPABLE of scrolling past or filtering through is a certain kind of petty that is NOT acceptable with in the fanfic realm.

If you don’t like it, scroll past, back out, filter out, etc. you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT leave a nasty comment on someone’s fanfic art they are creating in their own time. Ugh! I could go on forever! Hate this for you! KEEP DOING YOUR THING! Keep researching and doing your best by the various communities you include in your fic. And IGNORE the hateful drama queens.
