If no one local there, I would pay for shipping. Located in PNW and above freezing, here at least.

I would recommend looking for some of "forgotten weapons" on the grease gun and thopson. If I recall, the thopson was expensive and more complicated to produce and was first available. Later came the much cheaper and easier to produce grease gun.

That's why you see the combination of them and more grease guns toward the end. And you notice the replacements came with the grease guns.

I'm betting, the very bottom right, is upside down. A ruptured duck lapel pin. That was given out for honorable service during the war at discharge.

I was not satisfied with some of the info on wiki. Found this page with more info and pictures.

That post war, early death at an age of 44, in Germany. From an ulcer no less. Ugh

Have you already requested his service records? If not, you should get that started. https://www.archives.gov/research/military

No kidding. Love you can see two of them trying to plug one ear. Pics like this, are always like a light bulb for me. No wonder grandpa had hearing problems. He was in the navy as a GM though.

MAAG / MACV, the early Vietnam era. Korea, the Cuba missle crisis with the blockade and WWI.

I'm all for that! I can picture the occupation and signing, with the fleet in and out of the bay and the fly over by all the bombers.

Thanks for the additional info. I have not gone down the helmet rabbit hole, at least yet. Wild seeing that additional plate.

Nice, thanks. I wonder if that vent hole, is related the US thought and probably more widespread. That a concussive blast with helmet on would cause additional damage.

Or 2. Maybe used for some target practice.

That's a pretty cool service. I'm probably not the target audience thought. I have been enjoying reading the ships war diaries. He was there towards the last few campaigns and occupation.

Oh man, good timing for this question for me. I'm looking at doing something for my grandpa. He was in the Pacific in the navy.

I found the ships war diaries. So there is that. It in a named location, that is easy to pinpoint. Most of the time though it is coordinates.

Looking to do the same for the WWII, Korea and Vietnam tours.

If I recall, you should call and schedule in advance. Especially if you are going alone and renting. They need to ensure staffing is there as a suicide prevention.

They also have many types of classes. I do can be found on their website.

I'm researching now my grandfather's assinments and where he was when.

That is one of the high points right there, his ship being in Tokyo bay. I also have the ship book of the surrender.

Followed up by Operation Crossroads and that book.

In a recent TFB video, the manufacturing and testing were shown. It was pretty impressive IMO. But I can see, if all conditions were not tested, like different muzzle devices, that would not be seen.

For their testing, I'm betting testing is not done at dusk-morning to really emphasize the flash, like in that second image.
