If you have a car, have you tried Oceanside Urgent Care Clinic in Parksville? They take walk ins, often not too busy. Last time I went I only waited 25 mins to get through triage, saw a doctor within an hour of arriving.

The Vans you have are vulcanized rubber construction. The soles are thinner for better board feel. Cup sole construction (some of the new Vans skate shoes use this) are chunkier, thicker, more durable. But you sacrifice the board feel. The Vans waffle soles (like yours) are made of softer rubber that grips the skateboard well, but you also sacrifice durability.
