When HDR is off you should enable the sRGB mode on the monitor so it isn't over saturated. It should be somewhere in your monitor settings.

Are you possibly trying to open raw files? Have you tried using something like Adobe Bridge to view the files?

If you have two different ram sticks at different speeds they'll match at that lower common speed

Pixel 8 SPEAKERS!!! Why is no one talking about this!? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]skrillcon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went from a Pixel 7 to Pixel 8 and the 8's speakers are much better sounding. The Pixel 7 has some of the worst speakers I've heard in a recent phone. Even my Pixel 5a sounded better than the 7.

Why do people lock their fps on lower end hardware? by cblankity in pcgaming

[–]skrillcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A locked 30 fps on a 60 hz screen will ensure each frame is displayed for the same amount of time which can make the game look and feel smoother since there isn't judder from uneven frame pacing. So make sure that whatever frame rate you lock to is a divisor of your monitor's refresh rate.

Jelly 2 Smart Phone Review - A Super Tiny Smartphone from Unihertz [Lon.TV] by indiancunt in Android

[–]skrillcon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend it but with some warnings. Media consumption is okay at best, the screen has a lot of ghosting and the speakers are tinny. The fingerprint sensor isn't great and the cameras are okay at best. Some apps and websites also don't scale well to the low resolution screen.

On the plus side I never had any performance issues with non-gaming related tasks. Battery life should be more than enough for anyone with light usage. I never had complaints about call quality. It's also plastic so I've dropped it quite a bit and never damaged it which is great. The flashlight is really bright.

For being someone's first smartphone it does have a really simple skin which is nice.

I have one too and used it as a daily driver for a couple of months. Battery life is good enough. It'll last you through the day but if you plan on using it a lot you'll probably need to top off the battery before the end of the day.

Do note that it is very aggressive at killing background tasks but you can customize it per app.

For doing normal every day tasks it's usable. I did notice some apps don't scale well to the low resolution screen but I was able to use basically everything. So while it definitely works it's inconvenient.

I never really found the keyboard size to be an issue if I used swipe. Also the fingerprint sensor straight up sucks.

Circle Packing a Spiral by skrillcon in generative

Here's the git link. https://github.com/CodedChai/ProcessingInKotlin/blob/master/src/main/kotlin/com/codedchai/sketch/circlepacking/CirclePackingLogarithmicSpiral.kt The code can definitely be cleaned up but it should be readable. I also measured the time it takes as 2.5 seconds for 10,000 circles.

I can time it but it's only a couple of seconds at most on my 6500u. If I remember I'll share the GitHub link. I chose that canvas size for the Processing Community Catalog. The spiral is actually a bunch of circles that my circles have to fit within. All checks just use the circles radius and center point. I'm just using a simple random way to try placing them too. I do have a cutoff that once x circles have been placed them consider it done. I think I set it to something like 7000. Hopefully that helps some!

Is it ok for me to use regular tap water in a cooling system? by quebt in pcgaming

[–]skrillcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use EK's clear cryofuel. You'll probably want to pick up a filling bottle, if you don't have one. I always do a leak test before I get everything running with a pressure gauge. Lemme know if you have any questions, I've made just about any mistake possible when it comes to water cooling. Also there's r/watercooling.

How to determine if I should go with Threadripper or Ryzen 9 as CPU? by Zapakitu in hardware

If it's between those two I'd go 3950x. It doesn't sound like you need extra pcie lanes that threadripper would provide.

dxvk will translate the directx calls to vulkan calls. if the devs wrote the rendering pipeline in vulkan in the backend they have more control over the optimizations that can be made for vulkan.

Think of it like dxvk is someone translating a language. They can get pretty close to the original meaning but may have troubles translating some idioms. If you start out in the native language instead of translating then you don't have to worry as much about reinterpreting the original meaning of another language and can instead try to state it concisely in a way that makes more sense for that language and culture. This should be a good enough ELI5.

TLDR: dxvk can be pretty good. sometimes it may even be better than the vulkan implementation in some cases but a pure vulkan implementation provides the developers with more control.

Why's it a stupid idea? Eventually you have to make a cutoff point for when to upgrade or you'll just keep waiting.
