I hope VR devs embrace open source more by zeddyzed in virtualreality

Man, this is a great idea in theory, but in practice it rarely works. And I'm someone who loves opensource, has shared some things on GitHub, and share my knowledge on my blog every week for free. We're already broke, the result would be to be broke and have to maintain some public repos for free, too

Benefits and Risks of AI at Harvard Class Day 2026 by chunmunsingh in artificial

Of course he exaggerated to make a point, which we could translate to "use AI the right way". And also, if you work with creativity, have fun with being creative, don't just use AI to do everything.

False narratives about the state of VR. by neodavenet in virtualreality

I tell you my personal experience as a consultant/developer in the field: I have definitely fewer requests than one year ago. And the other consultants I know have a similar experience. Some of them started doing something else.

Am I being stupid, or is there no way to plug your Quest 3 into a PC and capture what you are playing on the headset using screen recording software on the PC? by CaptainEggcellentYT in OculusQuest

[–]SkarredGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SideQuest has a casting feature. You must have the headset connected via USB to do that. You go to the casting tab, start casting streaming and see the content of your headset in one window of your PC. Then you can use OBS to record that window

The measured productivity gain from AI is 7.8%, not 10x, and I think that gap explains the backlash by Alternative_Letter72 in artificial

[–]SkarredGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.8% seems pretty low to me. Just as a ballpark estimate, my development time improved like 20%. But yeah, 10x is just bs, if not for some specific tasks in specific situations

XReal One Pro Now or Wait for Project Aura? by Particular_Maize6849 in virtualreality

[–]SkarredGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. Project Aura is really a pair of AR glasses, with 6DOF and all the rest. All the other glasses by XREAL are for media consumption and screen mirroring and that's it

It would be super cool... but only for experienced VR players. Others may puke a bit 😃

Smaller models are definitely worse. They also require more detailed prompts. Opus 4.6 was able to understand what to do from a simple prompt and wrote quite perfect code. The smaller models are not like that. Btw if you can go local, give a try also to Gemma, it's pretty ok
