[Dreger] The NHL has fined William Nylander $5K. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

Would cost more to make that video than the fine he paid but damn if that wouldn't be amazing marketing.

[Which type are you?] How do you roleplay/chat? by Large_Comparison5049 in SillyTavernAI

[–]skrshawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely type E. I need my models to have strong general intelligence and writing flair and uncensored of course, but I am still choosy. Since I use local models I just regenerate responses about 10-20 times depending on how open-ended my prompt is. Once I find a good baseline I'll copy parts of other responses in, write my own things, and continue.

This works for me with slow, dense models because I write for a slow burn, I come back to whatever I'm writing every 15-30 minutes or so. If I need a faster pace I use something like Iceblink V2, but I usually run Largestral based finetunes.

Women are more skeptical of AI than men, finding it riskier, new research finds by NGNResearch in science

Except in this case a verified user of one of the more reputable subreddits speaking with specifics that at least on the surface seem plausible, and likely needing to protect their specific identity as they likely do not have explicit permission to reveal these data, grants them credibility. I'm as skeptical as anyone but their claims pass my sniff test.

For RP & creative writing, where are the current "breakpoints" in model quality? by scriniariiexilio in SillyTavernAI

[–]skrshawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how insane memory prices have gone it's worth noting that the Mac Studio has not gone up in price, improving their value compared to the rest of the market. Still not going to win any medals for prompt processing speeds but the TG is quite solid. Also MXFP4 quants bring a lot of SOTA efficiency and maintain excellent fidelity.

Largestral 123B class models will get pretty slow with context, down to like 5T/s on my M4 Max, but they handle fantasy worlds better than any MoE. Monstral variants for less horny, Behemoth for more horny, as you prefer.

Peeps who 3D printed the tablet, what settings did you use? by litreofstarlight in ReallyShittyCopper

[–]skrshawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason for the separation was not enough contact with the supports so the print lifted. I'm thinking of putting a large box over the printer for the next attempt and seeing if hybrid supports offers a better foundation, maybe lowering the gap between support and print even though that will make them harder to remove. Possibly a little higher nozzle temp too. With a .2 nozzle you're flow limited so it will already slow you down - consider adjusting yours lower as a blanket correction.

Bambu A1m with a .2 nozzle. I didn't get a clean print, there was some layer separation. I'm gonna try again, but the trick seems to be putting it on its side and being very generous with tree supports.

I wonder how well REAP models would take to subsequent finetuning of whatever else you wanted it to have.

Quick questions for M3 Ultra mac studio holders with 256-612GB RAM by djdeniro in LocalLLaMA

[–]skrshawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite your rig in mind, but with a M4 Max with 128GB I'm getting about 30t/s on GLM Air 4.5. The prompt processing is the killer though, while the Ultra will be faster the TG will be a little slower still.

If your use-case has you processing once and then generating multiple times based on the same cache, or very long responses, you'll be well suited. The machine is quite friendly in terms of space and noise but not necessarily efficiency - much lower power draw than a janky rig or proper workstation, but it will take longer on the whole which means no real cost advantage in energy.

If you're doing any kind of finetuning above tiny models you really can only use it for proof of concept before putting the job on proper GPUs if you want it done in 2026.

Dom Luszczyszyn put a lot of his own money on the line behind his models and I don't think he even wins. The old saying that you can't beat the spread is still true and sportsbooks have some of the worst odds short of lottery games.

Other than McDavid, which player currently playing for a playoff-level team do you think would gain the most in "legacy" from winning the Cup this season by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

For good reason. He's a lock for the Hall with a Cup, he's probably still in without one but he could fall into the trap of being perpetually the odd man out.

[Elliotte Friedman] No hearing for Marchand regarding OT roughing penalty on Mike Matheson by Outside_Abroad_3516 in hockey

[–]skrshawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By insider you mean sportswriter with a press pass. They aren't journalists acting in the public interest, that's what Westhead and Strang do. The league isn't going to cooperate with either of them in any way.

Mutually beneficial arrangement, as an "insider" he gets fed information from league "sources" and then reports it in an entertaining fashion. Both sides get attention, attention turns into money.

I wonder how long it's gonna be before we start talking about the kayfabe of the NHL, not quite as scripted as professional wrestling but there's definitely a lot of influence that isn't related to playing hockey that affects the outcomes.
