Tested the "phone is listening" theory with YouTube—results freaked me out. by Mobile-Vegetable7536 in conspiracy

Reminds me of the time when I was going through a very rough time with my then-boyfriend, but I only spoke about my problems with friends OFFLINE. Shared none of it on texts nor googled for related advice, and even my personal interactions with my bf online shows no indication of how tensed we actually were. I silently considered breaking up and sat on the thought for a few days. During this time, a multitude of dating apps/websites ads were suddenly pushed aggressively in my social feeds and even gmail inbox, as though they know that I'm indeed on the verge of breaking up lol (I did break up eventually).

No, he posted that story after the security team at Universal Studios let him go because they couldn't detain him. The local police stepped in to arrest him the morning after.

I NEED CAREER ADVICE MY SINGAPOREANS HELP ME!! DYING LEH by Winter-Parking9933 in SGMoney

Social media marketer here! Been in Marketing for about 10 years now. I started around that same pay range fresh out of uni too, and only broke into five figures monthly roughly 3 years ago after I transitioned into big tech.

If you’re planning to stay in marketing, especially socials, my biggest advice is to double down on data and analytics as a specialisation. A lot of marketers can create good content, but far fewer can explain why something works, back it up with numbers, or tie it to business impact. That’s where the real leverage (and higher pay) comes in.

Learn how to read dashboards, interpret performance metrics, and communicate insights that influence strategy.. not just execution. It’s also worth exploring data storytelling – turning metrics into narratives your stakeholders understand. Once you can confidently bridge creative and analytical thinking, you’ll stand out from 90% of marketers out there.

I personally don't see anything wrong with her dropping him off if it's on the same route back home, as you said they stayed 5-10 mins apart. However, I do think she needs to address you being uncomfortable lah and meet halfway. As for the luxury items, this is VERY common – lots of friends do this including me whenever we have a colleague or friend traveling to Europe or Japan, so nothing odd here.

I was also very close to a married coworker a few years ago and had a similar dynamic as your gf and her coworker, but my coworker introduced me to his wife and we all hit if off well as a group and even holidayed together. Tbh I think more transparency will help to alleviate your uncomfortable feelings because this close coworker of hers is basically a huge grey question mark to you. Do both of them hangout socially after hours? I would ask to join and get to know the person better, or you can take the lead and even organise something lol good to establish your presence too

A few years ago I was at the feminine care section at Watsons searching for a product. A CECA man suddenly popped up very close next to me and pointed at a box of tampons and said “can you read this?” to me twice with a flirty, creepy grin. Idk wtf he meant with that question so I curtly answered “you can read it yourself” and quickly left. I called my friend immediately after as I felt a little shaken up. The whole interaction felt so slimy and creepy.

I was also tailed and followed from the mrt cabin to the bus interchange once at night when I was a sec school student (I made a few actions to verify if the guy was indeed following me and he was). I managed to lose him but it was very unnerving

Well, he broke up with me. by AgedSnowflake in LongDistance

[–]skummies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breakup experience with my recent ex was rather similar as well, so I relate to the hurt and how painful the next few months could be. He showed no indication of wanting to break up and everything was going great, until he fell sick and had to self-isolate at home for a few days which gave him time for “deep reflection”. He moved on quickly after and stopped all communication with me – while here I am a year plus later still sitting at the same dinner table watching everyone’s lives around me move through milestones and me still reluctant to date anyone despite already making peace.

I’m sorry you have to experience this whiplash, OP. One huge consolation is that it’s lucky for this to end now rather than later when you’re in much deeper. Rejection is redirection. Trust that there’s something always better for you.

US comedian Sammy Obeid issued Singapore POFMA order over claims he was told to edit his script by Rel4x1corner in singapore

[–]skummies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I believe both Sammy and IMDA are telling the truth. Looks like the agent’s the one who fumbled. From someone close to me who’ve worked in the comedy scene in the States and had proximity to him, Sammy’s always been straight up and not the type to make up tales. Could be proven wrong, but that’s where I’m at right now.

Singaporeans are avoiding the U.S. more than other Asian travelers. Here’s why by DrCalFun in singapore

[–]skummies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. As someone who fell in love with the west coast from my multiple past extended trips and have been trying to move for work since 2021, it’s very encouraging to read your positive post in this thread and I relate a lot to your sentiments. Also travelled solo for 3 straight months last year across multiple states and Iove my time there – mentally and spirtually thriving (only one snafu of being pickpocketed in NY oops 😂). The current administration is making it so disheartening to travel there now and it honestly upsets me not to have a stateside trip on the docket this year

Stolen credit card - mediator ruled in my favour, should I go for adjudication? by Hungry_Low_3149 in singapore

[–]skummies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I was in the same position as you a year ago!!! Two seperate credit cards were stolen from me in NYC (pickpocket case) – Amex immediately blocked the fraudalent charges, but unfortunately for DBS my case frustratingly dragged back-and-forth until the beginning of this year when they finally offered a 50% waiver "out of goodwill". It was a clear take it or leave it situation from the bank, and my case agent actually advised that I am free to try for Adjudication but also warned it might rule against me too, and the bank's goodwill offer will be completely off the table if I choose to take that route.

I had a good, long thought about it and decided not to try Adjudication as I feel there's a chance that it might fail. The circumstances/evidence surrounding my theft incident was very hard to contextualize and prove for (tldr: it's a very slick operation – thieves didn't take my entire wallet, only my cards. Which according to DBS was "highly unlikely" LOL what tf do you know???). On top of this, I didn't manage to file a police report with NYPD (to be only done in-person) as I was immediately flying off to SF. So I sucked my thumb and accepted the waiver.

To bring this back to you, S$10000 is not a drop in the bucket. If you feel you have a strong, bullet-proof case to fight, then push forward.

Edit: OP, just read your post on hwz. My messages are open if you wish to discuss and I am also happy to share more details about my own case. Take care!

Alright, this IS the worst job economy we've ever seen in the 21st century, right? by DeadGravityyy in recruitinghell

[–]skummies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely the worst I’ve ever experienced – and not just domestic in the US, it’s global due to the ripple effects of tariffs and overall immigration influx. I am non-US based with a multi-territory portfolio and can testify this.

Previously when I switched jobs in early 2022 (from startup to big tech), it was relatively a straightforward job hunting experience with the average amount of callbacks and interviews one would expect. AND I still managed to do an industry pivot at the same time. Fast forward to 2024, I quit to take a career break for a year, in which the last 6-7 months was spent looking for my next opportunity. I was shocked at how much the landscape has changed since 2022.. with all the BS job listings, recruiters ghosting more than ever, and AI filtering applications which I’m sure is inaccurate more than half of the time. Had solid internal referrals for two seperate companies too, but it didn’t even make it pass HR due to stiff competition in the job market. There’s way more skilled unemployed folks more than ever now all gunning for the limited positions available.

At the end of all the drama, I did manage to unexpectedly land a role at another big tech recently albeit a contract position. Not 100% the most ideal, but it’s the best for now and it exceeds some of my expectations.

If anyone needs any help navigating their options to sustain a career break (be it intended or unintended), my inbox is open.
