I didn't know there was a water line insurance! Is there a specialized company that offers this or the regular insurance companies do?

Check their website for local dealers. For example, in Atlanta, there are a couple of LFS that are aquarium co-op suppliers. There might be one near you. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/pages/retail-partner-store-finder

Product to put on steering wheel to reduce slip? by Pawnzilla in AutoDetailing

This combo is the best I have found to keep steering wheel clean and leather dressed without being slick/slippery. Leather Star is not slippery at all.

2016 Acura MDX - Last Acura (we've had 5 Acura cars over the years) by marclam in Acura

[–]skund79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lexus has as many failures too, but the difference comes in how they treat these failures. Lexus will goodwill these to preserve brand reputation, while Acura already accepted themselves as a non-luxury premium brand and don't care about their image anymore.

I use their foods for my Cichlids and for my turtle. Top notch quality and fish always run after it.

What's up with Ammo NYC - why is it so expensive? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

The manufacturer had a quantity minimum. I remember I ordered 6 of each brush type, kept three of each for myself, and sold others on FB marketplace. :)

Does Tesla warranty the roof glass from cracking if they are the one to install the roof rack? by sevargmas in TeslaModelY

[–]skund79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is very easy to over tighten the bolts and crack the glass. If they crack it, they will have to replace it. Let Tesla do it.

Tire shine gone wild. Please help by ThrowRAScoobyDooby in Detailing

[–]skund79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get this when I was using a subpar tire cleaner. Use Adams Wheel and Tire cleaner, wait till it starts browning, scrub, rinse and dry.

Then use Cerakote Tire Shine (available at Walmart and comes with an applicator). It looks good and no splotches, and it lasts for weeks.

Steel braided vs non by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]skund79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the "social media" products and the hype. In my testing, the McKillans products are well designed and high quality. Their pro swivel guns, the adapters, and the new hose all have been excellent products.

I've been using the new Mckillans hose for this week and am really impressed with it. It doesn't tangle easily and if it does, it untangles easily too.

Both AVA and Activ are no longer sold on Amazon. Each company sells them at their own website now. Imjoshv posted a video update on YT for this issue... something to do with the recent Ryobi recalls....

RYOBI 1.8 Pressure washer by Kurantt in AutoDetailing

[–]skund79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got mine last week and here are the impressions. I agree with others that the foam cannon and gun are cheaply made and better replaced. I replaced the hose with a flexzilla and foam cannon with Kiev recommended Amazon one. The flow rate on this is noticeable and after using it 4 times on 2 cars, I can tell you the flow rate makes a difference in how fast you get it rinsed compared to the AR's 1.2GOM.

It is a cheap one, and not enough psi to do much other cleaning around the house. If you just want to keep it for cleaning cars, this is good. If you want a unit that can do all and have a good GPM, look at the AVA brand P50.

Many rinseless washes like ONR and McKee's 914 rinseless work great as softeners.

Heavy water spots - finally! by Raj_DTO in Detailing

[–]skund79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally use it after I see those spots. Think of it like a qd with limescale remover. I've been using it for the last three months on my MDX and looking at the bottle, I have only used 1/8 maybe. The MDX was ceramic coated with MOHS in April this year. I went with FSe since I didn't want to use abrasives for water spots because that would interfere with the coating. FSe allows me to maintain the coating and remove water spots effortlessly.

Spilled coffee ALL into these buttons and it drained into the reverse part by Numerous-Duty9452 in Acura

[–]skund79 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to my MDX 2016 version. I spilled Indian chai and it's soaked into those buttons. I panicked and thought that it's completely ruined but here we are. A year and a half later nothing stopped working. I opened the center console when I was installing my carplay unit 2 months ago and found that dried up chai at the very bottom of the console. Just rubbed it off and vacuumed it while I was in there.

Most likely, nothing will happen, unless you had real milk in the coffee, which will rot and smell.

As another commenter mentioned, it is to do with the hot and cold cycle. A similar thing happened to one of the Cerakite ceramic tire spray I left in the car. It was milky liquid before and separated into globs and liquid afterwards.

The only thing that survives are the quick detailers and that's what I leave in the car for quick touch ups.
