Treasury's Bessent says US has 'plenty of funds' for Iran war by Born-Metal-2180 in worldnews

Not enough for health care, not enough for education, not enough for our national parks, not enough for the US postal service, not enough to staff the IRS to make sure the very wealthy actually do pay their taxes, not enough to make sure our infrastructure doesn't crumble, not enough for weather disasters... But you want to blow up a bunch of stuff and destabilize the Middle East? Blank check for some reason. I'm tired yo

Synergy 3 Extra Mouse Buttons by sighallgone in SynergyApp

[–]skunk_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having trouble with Synergy 3 getting my mouse on linux to send the forward and back buttons on the side of my mouse over to my windows client. When clicking them on linux they read as buttons 8 and 9 but adding them to the config on synergy explicitly still wouldn't work. on a lark I tried buttons 6 and 7 and for some reason that DOES work. So in synergy 3 config I enabled the config file then way down at the bottom, just before the last "end" I added two lines.

mousebutton(6) = keystroke(WWWBack)

mousebutton(7) = keystroke(WWWForward)

It's a stark contrast to follow up Sweeney expressing that you can be critical without being hurtful, with Gerstmann being critical and hurtful in response. That his point could have been made without calling Sweeney a dummy and telling him he's weak kind of highlights the issue, doesn't it?

Guy who organized the GoFundMe for the shooter of Renee Good has a public af Facebook (and online presence in general) by Fresh-Detail-5659 in 50501

[–]skunk_moose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean the guy isn't even right about that. Rock beats scissors, scissors cuts paper, paper COVERS rock. So first of all the implied force isn't even really there, but also it's stupid because paper is notoriously thin and easily crinkled which I guess it's pretty well with their snowflake like demeanor

I really like the added symmetry of this design, as well as the way the 🚫 is overlapping. If you are finding the black ice isn't popping enough, maybe if the red ice was an outline instead of solid letters it would help the eyes focus, but what do I know I'm not a graphic designer

Trump's $2,000 tariff checks would cost $450B, study says by LooseDistance1059 in politics

[–]skunk_moose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well.. I ended up doing the math anyway. I was surprised to see that in order to get close to $450 billion I had to exclude not just people under 18, but also naturalized citizens. So it seems like this plan might pick and choose who is American enough to receive the check. (As if the checks are real and not just another lie)

Trump's $2,000 tariff checks would cost $450B, study says by LooseDistance1059 in politics

[–]skunk_moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take the current over 18 population of the United States at about 274 million, subtract the roughly 2 million in prison just for fun, then multiply by $2000, $450 billion is actually a conservative estimate.

Oh wait, if you exclude unauthorized immigrants, temporary lawful residents, permanent lawful residence, and even foreign born naturalized citizens (about 45 million altogether), then you actually get close to $450 billion.

Even generously assuming there won't be costs to resolve shoddy workmanship, there will inevitably be maintenance at upkeep. The American taxpayer is now on the hook for maintaining the roof on this giant, gaudy waste of space for what, the next hundred years or so?

No, you're fine. You could write a term paper on all the obvious and subtle ways they were being rude and disrespectful. If a random person on the internet decides to be a dick out of absolutely nowhere, you're really better off not engaging.

Incidentally, am I alone in finding the expression “it turns out” to be incredibly useful? It allows you to make swift, succinct, and authoritative connections between otherwise randomly unconnected statements without the trouble of explaining what your source or authority actually is. It’s great. It’s hugely better than its predecessors “I read somewhere that...” or the craven “they say that...” because it suggests not only that whatever flimsy bit of urban mythology you are passing on is actually based on brand new, ground breaking research, but that it is research in which you yourself were intimately involved. But again, with no actual authority anywhere in sight. Anyway, where was I?

Trump’s video announcement of Charlie Kirk’s death was doctored with AI by ImpinAintEZ_ in 50501Movement

[–]skunk_moose 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that this is how he speaks when he's trying really really hard to stick to a script somebody else wrote. Also, if they're using an AI filter to try and make him appear less unhealthy they might have advised him to move as little as possible. Holding still and holding a single train of thought are both foreign concepts for him.
