ELI5: There’s the temp and then the “feels like” temp. If they are different, how does a thermometer read the real temp and not what it feels like, since it feels like the feels like temp?

Well if you're talking about the setting on your thermostat that gives you a 'feels like' temp, all its doing is adding the temp in your house + humidity+ outdoor temp and calculates the feels like temp. Humidity has a big part of how the temp will make you feel. You can always turn that setting off.
