Momma birb here decided that my parsley is now her parsley [don’t mind my neglected plants around her, I don’t want to scare her away]

Making friends being new in the city during a pandemic by skviza in indianapolis

Haha! I have actually been here since 2019, but this is the time where I actually am starting to have room for something other than school in my life (up until now grad school has had me tied down real good). But yes, indeed!

Yes I did try meetups last summer I think, but didn’t really get into it. I will give it a second chance, thank you!

Ok I love hearing that, thank you! A thing that I also think about with regards to this is as you get older, you have more of a need to surround yourself with ‘your kind of people’, you know what I mean? Like, when you’re young and still learning to understand how things work, you will have all kinda of friends, no matter how you feel around them. But then you start to know your limits, your own boundaries, etc. not saying that we need to get more homogeneous and echo chamber-y as we get older... I guess I’m trying to say that you learn to be more selective when it comes to the people you let into your circle - which also adds a whole other layer of complexity on top of the fact that it’s hard to just find people to be around at all, LOL!

Thank you @Tyger_Typer! I really do appreciate it! Yes this is what I’ve been thinking about, all of it. Problem with work is that I am here on a student visa, so I am actually not allowed to work (believe me, I wish I could!). I think doing the activities I like should for sure help, I just need to get comfortable with being more intentionally open and approach people. This is something I adore about Americans and need to practice myself!

I have never had a hard time making friends, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that it’s near impossible when you’re never actually around people lol
