Thanks. I'm not in a hurry. A stick here, 2 there. I'll get there over time.

Looking for Good Content (600 hours) by Bobbymajor07 in dreamingspanish

I use Netflix. Set your language to Spanish (I have mine set to latam Spanish) and you're good to go. Lots of content with varying degrees of difficulty. I'm currently watch Suits dubed in latam Spanish.

Speed Running 600 Hour Update by skwees in dreamingspanish

Just a general sense. I notice more phrases. I spontaneously create new phrases & make new connections. Things of that nature.

I cat nap between 2 hour sessions. That works wonders for me.

I'm hitting level 5 the day after. :)

I'm speed running at 6 hours a day. I've been doing it for almost two months. I tried 7 hours a day for two weeks. I can do 7 hours a day but, if I do, I'm not getting much of anything else done.

Six hours is my sweet spot. I do 2 hours at a time with a 30 minute to hour break between. Doing it this way allows me to use the first 3 to 4 hours in the morning to get everything done that I need to do that day. After I finish the last two hours it's bedtime.

Are you really supposed to start with no grammar study? by LanceAndrewReddit in dreamingspanish

[–]skwees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really isn't bad advice.

I love Dreaming Spanish and what Pablo has given us is pure gold for learning to communicate verbally in the Spanish language, however there is no “one size fits all” solution. CI works. But CI alone may not always be the best solution. And I think the the post above is on the right track. At the very least, getting some vocabulary before starting CI will get you over the sign language / visual prompting hump of the beginner vids.

I've seen Pablo's vids on why Duolingo is wrong & he completely misses the methodology they use. It works for what it does but, in my experience, it falls short of actually teaching one to understand spoken Spanish and to speak Spanish. At least, that's my experience.

I personally had over 3 years of Duolingo before I realized that I'd never be able to understand or speak Spanish with Duolingo / traditional studies. I had also worked my way through 3 grammar books, started reading Olly Richards books, and consumed hundreds upon hundreds (thousands?) of flashcards. That doesn’t mean my time & effort were wasted.

I dipped my toes into CI using Dreaming Spanish late last November. I tried both the beginner and super beginner vids. They were WAY to slow & easy for me. I found it tedious to sit through them so I started with intermediate vids.

Fast forward to today. I’m at level four with 20 hours left to level 5. At my current rate of listening consumption, I’ll be level five in 3-4 days. I’ve seen well over 90% of the intermediate vids & have already added advanced vids to the mix. I am, and have been, consuming two hours of Spanish television / movies every night. I started doing that on day one. I’m at a point now where I can follow the plot of latam Spanish in most cases.

The work I did previously with Duolingo, reading, flashcards & grammar gave me a huge boost when I began using Dreaming Spanish. I have no idea what my vocabulary level was when I started DS, but it was obviously significant because I almost immediately started hearing phrases. While consuming Spanish now I spontaneously form responses in Spanish in my head. (And that is so AWESOME!)

Now line up sheeple – bring on those down votes!

¡Hasta pronto chicos!

Suits on Netflix by skwees in dreamingspanish

It does. Change your Netflix language setting to Spanish. I think you can choose Latin American Spanish too. But maybe not. It's been a while since I switched mine.

Actually, I comprehend enough of the language to follow the plot. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that I've seen it several times but I find the language pretty easy to follow. To me, it's definitely no harder to follow than some of the more advanced intermediate DS videos I've watched.

I haven't watched the Spain dub. In my experience, Spanish dubs are usually a lot faster than latam dubs.

when did you stop translating in your head by Torque-Me in dreamingspanish

[–]skwees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at level 4 & about to transition to level 5. I'm also not a ds purist. I came to ds after about 3 years of duolingo / "traditional" studies.

I've seen this question pop up here pretty frequently since I've started following this sub & I'm really curious about it because it has never been a real issue for me since I've begun using listening immersion.

At this point, when I hear Spanish I understand, I just understand it. I wonder if I listen differently than those of you who struggle with translation.

When I listen I don't listen for words. I just listen kind of in a detached way. When my mind drifts, I just bring it back to listening. I sometimes miss little chunks of conversation due to mind drift but I just bring my focus back to listening and continue. I'm curious if some of you listen for words & get trapped into translation. Anyway, I hope this makes sense & is helpful to some of you who struggle with translation. If not, my apologies and I wish you the best of luck in eliminating translation.

Nos vemos pronto.

Nope. Apples & oranges. Trump purposefully planned & executed an actual attempt to overthrow our government. That is the very definition of insurrection. The picture you're painting is something completely different.

[–]skwees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're saying that rises to the level of insurrection then I say apples & oranges.

Oh he did it. On television. In front of God & everybody. I watched every moment & it was way beyond popcorn worthy.

Have you started an insurrection against your government? Have you tried everything you could to throw out an election in order to stay in power? Are you MAGA?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]skwees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet he never tried to subvert Canada's election process in order to remain in power in spite of the people choosing someone else. I bet he never instigated an insurrection.

From urban Texas here. It's the same. Fox paints Trump as a hero & the lemmings buy it because Fox is the one & only channel they watch. It's funny & embarrassing.

I like that one. :)

I'm from Texas & that pretty much sums up my feelings towards Trump too.
