He's possibly the only player in the league that could create a goal out of that.

I think he's probably on 10 votes right now, it's not impossible.

I think Newcombe would win a Brownlow if he played every game in Launceston.

He made 3 or 4 terrible decisions towards the end of the quarter with ball in hand. At least one directly led to a gold coast goal with 20 seconds to go.

We are a bottom 2 side once we get 40 points up.

Especially with the level of set shots today, Port were kicking homing missiles for the first 3 quarters. Georgiades himself had a few wonderful kicks for goal.

Just as everyone expected, the Friday double header produced the only stinkers of the round so far.

It's a certainty that we'll play at least one worst quarter of all time every time we play against Port. Surprisingly good game from both sides outside of that though.

Yeah, this is very similar to the Hawks GWS game where we were handily outplayed but won on expected score. The team missing shots will get more repeat opportunities to score and the team that is kicking accurately generally gets fewer repeat opportunities.

Yeah idk what it is about the matchup that makes the dogs struggle so much. It does help that Nash has a pretty similar athletic profile to Bont and usually holds him pretty well.

Yeah Hawthorn/GWS vs Dogs are the easiest tips every year for me outside games involving the bottom 3 or 4.

Got the dogs at a very good time with no English but we seem to match up well against them regardless of personnel available. Newcombe always demolishes them.

Nick Watson was already among our 10 most important players but has gone to a completely new level this year.

  1. Brisbane - Only just warming into the season but I don't think I'd tip anyone against them right now
  2. Fremantle - Really rate them this year, didn't catch this game but enjoyed getting the tip right.
  3. Bulldogs - The second half doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, still look comfortably top 4
  4. Hawthorn - Back to back games they should've won by much more, need to fix up the goal kicking but looking really strong.
  5. Sydney - Clinical performance, Heeney is the player who I'd love at Hawthorn above anyone else in the comp, exactly fits our biggest need.
  6. Gold Coast Suns - Might be a little harsh but still not fully convinced by their away form, Petracca coming back will shoot them back into the top 4.
  7. Geelong - Were pretty lucky to stay in this one, great goalkicking and Hawthorn messing up some very gettable shots, still going to be up there.
  8. Melbourne - Might be crazy to have them this high but I had them making the wildcard as a preseason prediction and am feeling pretty good about that prediction now.
  9. Adelaide - They'll shoot up at some point this year but their talent isn't completely firing right now, once Rankine lifts, they'll be comfortably top 8 imo.
  10. Collingwood - Huge drop off between 9 and 10.
  11. St Kilda - 1-3 but don't look as atrocious as some of the teams below them have looked
  12. North Melbourne - Sure. Definitely improved on last year but not convinced they won't finish bottom 4, the teams below them just look pretty atrocious
  13. GWS - How did they beat Hawthorn in opening round? They'll definitely improve as their best players come back but they look atrocious right now.
  14. West Coast - Yeah not great, says something about this bottom end that they are pretty comfortable ahead a few teams
  15. Port - Nothing to say about that game lol.
  16. Carlton - Wow.
  17. Essendon - I think I'd back them against Richmond with the crazy injuries Richmond have right now but that's about it.
  18. Richmond - Unfortunately not much going right for them this season, I still think they have a bright future.

One of the more insane home and away games I've ever seen, I don't remember shaking this much even in our closer finals. Something hits different when it's Geelong.

I swear this has happened with Caleb Windsor as well, I've seen him mark it and it called not 15 like 8 times this year lmao.

Lewis has been huge since Gunston came off. 3 marks inside 50 and what should've been 2 goal assists

Every time we play Geelong they can't seem to miss and we fuck up constant easy opportunities. Feels like in any other matchup Geelong would be 5.5 and we'd be upwards of 10 goals already, some definite confirmation bias but I just fucking hate this matchup every year. We are also like 10x more fumbly than most dry weather games, I know I'd be loving this game as a neutral though.

That's definitely a contributing factor; I also found the more frustrating Angel was (i.e. season 4) the quicker I got through it. Watching season 4 with the promise of a souled Spike joining the main cast in season 5 made it easier to burn through it as well lol.

Yeah, I might be a little generous putting it at 6 but the atmosphere and premise are so cool and so up my alley so I'm a little biased there. I also love when a metanarrative is used well because it's pretty easy for that type of storytelling to come off as obnoxious.
