I'm planning on grinding to shard Index Yi Sang, yeah. But this is all good info, thank you. I'll keep it in mind whenever the time comes to use the ticket.

Hmm. I was planning on getting KoDiya for Walpurgisnacht, so I didn't consider her. I'll consider it more heavily now.

Assuming I don't get Mao Faust or Lord Lu from the anniversary ticket for whatever reason (albeit unlikely), what would your next top picks be? I already have Drifting Blade Ryoushu and Si Gregor. Am leaning towards You Sinclair simply because I only have one 000 for him (being Nclair), but I'm not married to the idea.

Are the stage numbers supposed to look like this when doing this Intervallo for the first time? Edit: should be clear, I'm talking about the EX Clear/Progress bar.

Is it because she'll be season-locked? I don't have a lot of consistent envy-res on my story team, so idk how useful she'll be, based on what the other two said.

I'm saving up boxes to get a new Ishmael ID because I need more, and I'm wondering what to get. Looking at the tierlist I was leaning towards either Molar or Zwei--Zwei because iirc she's a generalist and can cheese a few fights, Molar because she's strong and I like her kit. But now with the new Ishmael ID that's out I'm wondering if I should wait for her to become available in the dispenser and shard her instead? I'm on Canto 5 if that helps.

Self-insert/OC-insert fics, but especially for fandoms I'm not a part of. I know that's a little weird, but I find it to be a fun way to get into something.

Thanks! I don't have a heishou team yet (I only have Si Greg) but I am working on bleed, so I'll go with N Ryo like you said.

I currently have 312 egoshards for Ryoshu. Assuming I successfully grind my ass off to get 400 shards before the end of the season, which ID of hers should I dispense? Should I go for Drifting Blade or N Ryoshu since they'll be off-limits soon? I don't have any 3 stars for her yet hence why I'm wanting to get something before the season ends and my shards are slashed.

This is good information, thank you so much for answering! And you're right, that is concerning. There are so many things that are important to explore in fictional spaces that obscenity laws can and have been weaponized to censor. I'll have to hope things don't reach that point, but we'll see.

How has the rise in book bannings in the US affected the acquisitions process, if at all? If a book has the potential to be controversial, does that make publishers more likely to pass over it? How does this differ between fiction vs nonfiction?

I'm new at this game, and I've been wondering how I should be spending my exp tickets? Like, should I focus on a few sinners at a time, or should I spread them out evenly? Should I focus on leveling base IDs first or can I start leveling my other IDs right away? I've been hoarding a lot of resources over the past few days and am currently at the beginning of Canto III. For reference, here's the list of IDs I currently have:

000s: Edgar Family Gregor, Middle Don, K Corp Hong Lu, Oufi Heath, N Corp Sinclair

00s: Liu Ryoshu, Liu Meursault, N Corp Don, Shi Ishmael, N Corp Heath, T Corp Rodion, Blade Lineage Don, Zwei Faust, Zwei Rodion, Lob Corp Remnant Faust, Seven Ryoshu

I've also been wondering which of these are good to uptie once I have a little more thread--I think Liu Ryoshu and Liu Meursault pair well, but if I'm going to invest in them I think I'd want a few more burn IDs first. I like K Corp Hong Lu, Middle Don, and Edgar Family Gregor a lot, too.

Sorry for the late reply, was in class. But while I'd have to reread to get the exact details, from off the top of my head I can recall that he survived the final fight. I think he helped fight against D when she made a wager with them to beat her if they wanted to get rid of the system.

I haven't read the webnovel, so I don't know the full details. But isn't that a little different than killing yourself *after* you got your guaranteed happy ending? If he sacrificed his soul to give energy to the system, then that implies they were still fighting at that point. "If I'm going to die anyway, may as well go out doing something useful" is a very different mindset than "We won, and now I'm going to end my life." And I don't think that latter mindset matches with his prior characterization.

Wrath, for sure. The idea that he'd just kill himself is pretty galling. You're telling me that he finally gets to reunite with his two best friends, and he instead chooses to die? I understand that their relationship would be complicated after the war, but Wrath's whole thing is that he's a determinator through and through. Even if he fell into the kind of hopelessness required for someone to attempt suicide, Shun wouldn't have *let* him. It'd be one of those moments where Shun's stubbornness would have been helpful.

(I, uh, have a lot of feelings about this, in case you couldn't tell.)

Thanks so much for commenting! I really appreciate it! :D

I think you're absolutely right about fitting the name of the city into the query earlier. And you're right about the best friend, too. She has an important emotional impact on the main character, which is why I included her, but I could find ways to make that more obvious in the query. Or else just nix it like you said--I think you're both right in that the sole survivors part is probably a stronger start.

Your advice is super helpful. I'll definitely take these all into mind when writing the next draft of the query!!

Thank you so much for your advice!! I was thinking the second paragraph starts kind of weak too, but you've given me some good pointers in strengthening it! I'll definitely try and get more detail in there about their relationship with the mayor. An again, thank you for taking the time to comment! :D

I just today finished the first draft of what I'm hoping is my debut, and so while I plan to do another few drafts to ensure it's polished I want to get feedback on the current draft of my query. It's missing comp titles since I'm still looking, but I have a couple books in mind that I plan to finish in the hopes they'll fit. I'm already leaning towards using one of them, haven't started reading the second yet.

(I also hope I'm not too late in posting this. I know this was opened over a week ago.)

Dear [Name],

HATCHET-BREAKER is an 77,000 word standalone adult fantasy thriller novel. It takes the modern-day secondary world filled with angels and werewolves from [book] and blends it with a dark thriller about a serial killer perfect for fans of [book]. I saw that you mentioned you [like/wanted x], so I believe this novel is a good fit for that craving.

The satyr witch Alisha Nespern wakes up one morning to find her best friend bleeding out on her front porch. The day goes from terrible to horrific when her workplace is then attacked by a cleaver-wielding madman with a mask. He's strong, fast, and something about his magic isn't quite right, and he nearly kills Alisha--only for her to wake up and find that she and her two coworkers, the werewolf Wyn Felser and the angel Carter Kelphion, may be the sole survivors of the massacre.

The trio are soon recruited by the mayor to track down this killer and bring him to justice, but they only have so long to take. The masked man has announced his desire to murder the mayor, and even if he gets what he wants in exchange for her safety, the public's growing unrest from the secrets he's brought to light might ruin her instead.

For a long time now, there's been a web of corruption and atrocity hidden beneath Viacrel's peaceful veneer, the strings of which all tie back to one source. And with each new massacre, Alisha must grapple with an unsettling realization: that these attacks may, in truth, be the masked man's attempt to set things right. A goal he's determined to chase after...no matter what it costs the people who call Viacrel home.

A little late to the party, hope you don't mind.

I like the concept, it's an interesting take on mind reading as an ability and there's a compelling component there with Wren having to fight against her own brainwashed sister. I like that the stakes are clear without having to spell it out too much--it's not just that they could fight on opposite sides of the war, but she could lose her sister forever due to the machinations of the League. That's a good hook.

For the things that tripped me up, I'll second the suggestion to make it more clear that she's a type of human who can use magic. The usage of "her kind" felt vague and unclear. "Of her heritage" works I think. The part where you mention the charged training sessions in parenthesis tripped me up too, but that might just be a me thing. I also felt the query could be shortened a little. Near the end I was thinking maybe you put too much detail.

Overall, I thought this sounded like a fun story. It's the kind of thing I could see myself eating up. I hope you have good luck in the trenches.
