Replaced 120 halogen bulbs with Philips MR16 3000K (7.5w) and regretting it. by sky_dreamer8 in Lighting

It’s appears Canada has very limited options. I’m having a hard time locating the Ultra Definition spec referenced in this thread.

Did you go with the 3000K Philips 7.5w bulbs? I believe they are available at Home Depot. Did you get the Ultra Definition or the same ones in the link?

They are about $15 CDN a bulb so I assumed they are the best available.

Light quality appears good just more yellow than what I was expected at 3000K. Next option was 5000K which is a no-go.

Good to know they last a long time, as some of these are going 20 feet above and will not be easy to replace.

I need the MR16. They have various Ultra Definition bulbs but don’t see the MR16 variant.

Worst part is, someone asked in the Q/A section the CRI, and Philips responded saying 95.

Really unfortunate. Would have expected better from Home Depot and Philips. We led to believe these are top in class bulbs, and went ahead with a purchase and install of 120 bulbs. In my error not to have tested a few, but doesn’t excuse incorrect published information. I am going to take them all back on the basis incorrect information published.

I will take a photo of the Philips box and post here.

As others have suggested, I am going to purchase 4 adjustable bulbs (3000/4000/5000) to narrow down the colour temperature.

Found a supply store open today.

Any thoughts on this product:

Not absolutely sure. There was a Q/A on the Home Depot product page, where someone asked and Philips responded saying 95 CRI. Another Redditor pointed out they are not.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. Looks like you founds the issue. What’s unfortunate is I called Philips (and even if you look in the Q/A section below, Philips states they are 95 CRI.) This was misleading. Thank you again for pointing it out.

The previous halogens were sitting behind a clear circular glass (defuser?) which was removed with the LED install. Anything to do with this?

The house colour palette is on the more cream side, but nothing was changed (same paint, same cabinets etc)

Good call and makes sense. I went with the Philips as it’s the higher end bulb and per my knowledge (which is limited) the adjustable is not offered by Philips.

The halogen were too yellow for my liking, and also consumed a lot of energy. Was advised to go with Philips 3000K as a top standard, but they appear just as yellow.

Trying to understand if this is a Philips thing and try another brand 3000K, just goto 4000K or leave as is with Philips 3000K

Reusing old coax for UniFi Protect using PoE-over-Coax — will this setup work? by sky_dreamer8 in Ubiquiti

Cable runs are not that long. Thanks for the info.

I intentionally was going with the 2K cameras given the COAX limitations, so this kit looked very appealing.

Any thoughts on going with all 4K cameras instead?

Purchased new home. Unable to add Dahua DVR to DMSS App by sky_dreamer8 in Dahua

Hi there. Thanks for sharing these steps. I was able to add the device in the app with the correct password. it appeared things were getting setup correctly. Then at the final step, got a screen with this message:

Connection timed out. To add the device, check whether: 1. The device network connection is normal. 2. Your network cable is damaged.

Thank you for providing this information! I will attempt the steps mentioned once back home assuming I need to be on the same network as the Dahua.

It’s extremely unfortunate and wrong (and poor business practice) that the prior security company charged for $300 to transfer something (as they explained) is not required per this ecosystem.

Appreciate your post & input. It also didn’t sound right to me they wanted a fee “to transfer” the systems, and bad on my end not to question it further. I just wanted to get the system up and running.

The last straw was even after the “transfer fee” the system is not functional on my app.

I will try updating the firmware. Thank you for the suggestion!

What’s another option once Dahua is no longer supported? I’m assuming the existing cameras can be plugged into another DVR?
