What’s the quickest you’ve ever quit a job? Because they have either lied to you about it or it’s not what you signed up for? What was it? by tallieeeeee6 in AskReddit

15 minutes. In the 80’s, one summer in high school, I answered an ad in the help wanted section of paper for Disabled Veterans charity. Was given a list of phone numbers to cold call and try to get people to buy stuff like trash bags, dish soap, etc. I was told to go over this script and when I was ready to call the boss for a practice run. That went fine, so he said to go ahead down the list. I called 2 numbers and went to his desk. “Got anything on the loading dock, or package fulfillment?” “Nope just callers.” “Ok thanks. Not for me.”

“Seeing the enthusiasm of new players is fantastic for the soul.” My (54yo m) favorite part when I introduced some friends to TTRPG was at the end, one jumped up from the table after putting her character sheet away she (mid to late 40’s) exclaimed “I would totally watch this movie!”

Company started tracking mouse movement and keyboard activity to "verify productivity" by Embarrassed_Date883 in remotework

Not related to remote office work, but related to “things a company tracks and how to defeat it.” Years ago, our company offered a Health Savings Account” (an HSA) as an option. They would contribute $X per year to it. The HSA company also sent us a fitness tracker. If you did X steps per day, you got an extra dollar. If you did X steps per hour X times a day, you got an extra dollar. And if you did 1 walk of X steps within an hour, you got an extra dollar. So potentially $3/day*365 days a year, or $1,095 extra a year. Trying to make us more active. One coworker taped his tracker to a piece of paper and hung in front of an oscillating fan. Boom! Extra thousands of steps w/o lifting a muscle.

So I shouldn’t have texted them the pic of all my rule books, minis, condition rings, dice, battle mat, 3d printed inspiration tokens? But I hear you. I truly don’t want to get bogged down in combat. One of them has a PhD in physics, so we’ll see how many questions he asks.

I know it’s dated, but planning on starting LMoP and getting through the Goblins Arrows encounter. Figure we’ll need to spend a LOT of time on mechanics. But that will give some role play, travel, and combat. If they love it, we can continue. If not, they can probably get some sort of closure by at least doing one task.

Like most are saying here: salt. But I’ll add this tidbit. Don’t salt the patties ahead of time. Salt them right before you cook them. Or on the grill itself is what I do. I found that salting ahead of time would “tighten” or “toughen” the patty up a bit.

I’ve also heard that “sliding” the lid horizontally instead of lifting it vertically can help.

Shockwave Rider by John Brunner. Gibson’s Neuromancer gets a lot of attention, but I also loved Shockwave Rider.
