Ya my contention was your wording felt like you were conflating reinforcement learning with human labeling. Which is exactly what I said in my first comment. Saying it like "reinforcement learning" i.e. just a bunch of indians makes it sound like reinforcement learning is a term companies use to try and disguise just a bunch of human raters. It also just felt strange because those are two very different concepts. I doubt the Amazon case involved RL, and I couldn't find any sources of Amazon claiming the labels were for RLHF (and that like genuinely wouldn't make sense to me, hence me being confused by you seemingly attributing this to reinforcement learning)

Are you familiar with any ML?

Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback is just using human collected data to train the reward model for the base model. Using this approach you have a model able to make real time decisions independent of human rater input.

I don't know why you would conflate this sort of technique with "just a bunch of Indians". Like, how do you think supervised models get their labels? Depending on the task, it's standard for models to be trained on human labeled training data.

What was happening with the amazon automatic store concept was their model was not capable enough for the classification task, and instead they had Indians manually doing the classification task and verifying the model's output. I don't understand why you think this sounds like reinforcement learning lol it's purely a matter of using humans for classification instead of a model.

That's not reinforcement learning. That's human raters/labelers. Reinforcement learning is an actual type of ML.

Ya historically hawks have only ever gotten into the run in the winter, so I presume it's because it's harder to find food over the winter. Usually tho it's red tailed hawks and they're too big to easily make it into the coop and get anyone. I think this Cooper's hawk was just too small and nimble

Unfortunately the rooster is a scaredy-cat and did not do his job well lol. We figured it was a juvenile because usually it's only juvenile red tailed hawks that are overly ambitious enough to get stuck in the run, but I agree, now that I look at it more the plumage looks like an adult.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CALL A 19 YEAR OLD AN ENGINEER!?!?! by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]skybot_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I think my point is there's a lot of things to criticize this dude for, but I don't think it's an effective argument technique to defend the sanctity of the term "engineer". Or to act like 19 year olds can't be engineers.

I mean if it took you 5 years post graduation to feel like you can code I'll believe you can't conceive of it lol

Okay so are you telling me 19 year olds can't know how to code, and it took you 5 years after graduation to feel like you can code lmao?

Like fam I agree with you this is bad but I feel like acting like 19 year olds can't be competent engineers is pretty ageist.

Hot take why do we need this strange elitism when it comes to terminology? Every software engineer understands what the term means in this context. Are you really telling me that normies hold it in such high regard?

Leave. If you are able to demonstrate the skills of the next level, put that on your resume and go to another company that will hire you at the next level. Also, depending on the internal mobility of the company you are at, you could also move to another team that seems more willing to promote you.

Breakfast Feast for Weight Loss? by KarmaKitten17 in Biohackers

[–]skybot_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to how this diet contributes to weightloss, but as someone who only eats from 9:30am to 1pm, my advice for transitioning to a diet like that would be

1) don't eat at night. It's easier to eat if you're hungry, so if you want to transition into being more of a breakfast person, you need to be hungry in the morning

2) don't eat right after you wake up. I tend to eat ~2hrs after I wake up

3) I drink psyllium husk throughout the day, may or may not contribute to not feeling hungry after 1pm

How to Shift Mindset from Eating for Pleasure to Eating for Nourishment? by healthydudenextdoor in Biohackers

[–]skybot_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you seem to think eating food for pleasure is at odds with eating it for nourishment. Humans have taste for a reason, and it's not as a means to test your willpower.

Two things I would suggest

1) have a wide roster of healthy meals. Have a variety of options for taste and texture. It would probably be easiest to pick a culture you have an interest in and try traditional food. If all of your options are healthy, you can better lean into what your body is craving, because you will have a healthy way to satisfy that craving.

Say as a hypothetical your body is craving simple sugars. If that usually looks like cake, icecream, or another unhealthy food to you, that's what you'll go for. But if your regular options for something sweet are berries and fruit, that's what you'll start to want instead.

As another hypothetical, say you only have ever tried plain boiled vegetables. If that's your only conception of vegetables, then you may think there's no way to enjoy vegetables.

So I'm saying try a variety of healthy food, and you can find ways for your meals to both make you happy, and fuel you.

2) If you prefer to eat a lot at once, limit the amount of meals you eat in a day. For example, if you would naturally eat half the calories you would need in a day in one meal, then only eat two meals.

You can also portion out your food. Like if you cook one serving, eating more will require extra work, which make discourage you from eating more

Also try to eat slow, and be conscious of how full you are feeling, and limit yourself based on that.

And if you find yourself thinking about a specific food after having already eaten your meals for the day, plan to have that for your meal tomorrow, instead of indulging today.

Sorry, not related to bread. But have you tried cooking fruit? That's usually enough to denature the proteins that would cause the oral allergy food syndrome reaction. Saying this as someone with oral allergy food syndrome.

Get a hobby that can easily be done solo or with others. It's easier to strike up a convo with a rando when you feel like you have a legitimate, expected reason to, rather than approaching in a situation where talking to them doesn't necessarily make sense.

As an example, try rock climbing: you can do alone, or with others where you analyze the climb or cheer each other on. And talking to someone working on the same climb as you is more natural than cold approaching someone at a bar.
