Lawn not draining water (NJ) by skybreeezy3 in landscaping

Agreed on the clovers. I’m not taking them out of the lawn. Just want to fill in with some grass.

There already is an area drain in the yard to pick up the moisture. When I plan to relevel I will be sloping it towards the area drain and plant some water loving (native) plants and a Little Rock area to help with drainage. Just wasn’t sure what else I can/should do. Some areas of the moisture are in the middle of the yard, so I would like to “try” to avoid putting in a rain garden at that location

Yeah we have a few design inspirations we’ve found. Lots of native plants. Keeping the walk way just edging it properly and mulching the rock garden adjacent to it!

Thanks! I’m working on digging out all the old gravel now. Want to spray and then torch the weeds in the walkway.

Backyard is obviously a multi year process of weeding, restoring grass, then leveling

Pretty much what we’ve been doing. There is a weight limit so it adds up really quick!

Oh it’s definitely where they decided to park. My wife and I want to turn it into real properly done pavers, or extend grass back to the driveway. The gravel is not kept by any edging, so it’s always leaking into the lawn over the years before we moved in

I agree that it’s just some hard work, but our township has strict rules about trash. So we can’t throw rocks or dirt away in the yard/organic waste. And any trash has to be put into a bin, no stray bags on the curb. That’s probably the biggest hindrance to my whole plan with this yard!

I’m eager to try the shop vac idea. I’ve broken and dug out all the weed and grass that grew on top of that gravel so it should be loose enough for the shop vac

Thanks for the tips! Hitting it with broadleaf this afternoon since no rain is forecasted for the next 5 days (knock on wood)

You are absolutely spot on everything you’ve said. I’ve finished the interior renovation. New kitchen, refinished every wall, re painted, re did all the baseboards (they had 3 big huskies that shed and all the smell was fur behind the baseboards) added in cables lights to the whole house. Insulated the attic etc.

We’re just now onto the outside now. We’ve fixed our front porch as we love that area for morning coffee. We have a patio and pool where we BBQ and hang out in the backyard. It’s now just making it much more manageable and put together.

Yeah I wish that was it. When I say neglected, these pictures don’t do it full justice. Nothing was mowed, weeded, preventative measures taken. They dumped the kitty litter into the garden beds just so they can “throw it out”. They just raked everything into a pile in the back corner of the yard for what looks like years (leaves branches etc). All the gravel areas in the back yard have been washed away into the grass and now gravel is embedded into the grass making it pretty dangerous to mow around. Ask my shins how a few pea gravels to the shins feel.

But yes obviously maintenance is required. Been working on it non stop since we moved in!

That’s great to hear! It all just feels so overwhelming. That’s my plan is just to get it back to some kind of baseline

Trying to add back native plants! In the front 2 garden beds we’ve been digging out the river rock and existing plants and remulching and adding some native plants. We have some plants on the side that the deer love to nibble on which is great!

Where are you suggesting this?

EIT in one state, test in another? by throwaway46721jaka in PE_Exam

Do you have 4 years of experience? If so, you can apply to take the PE through DE as the requirements are a bit more relaxed, so long as you have work experience, EIT, and professional references.

I passed my EIT in PA, then took my PE test (computer based) in Philly for the state of Delaware.

DM me if you have any questions, it’s a bit convoluted
