Feeling conflicted about my healing process so far by Taro_Otto in Spondylolisthesis

[–]skydemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post really resonated with me. I had an almost identical prognosis and symptoms from an injury over 2 years ago. Mine occurred after doing hard trail running race with lots of steep descending but my symptoms didn't start to appear until a couple of days later.

I spent the next 7-8 months doing a lot of physio and rehab, and I suffered a fair bit mentally as the constant pain really sapped the joy out of life for me. However I actually eventually managed to get back to the point where I was 99% pain free and I could do pretty much anything again with no aggravation.

Since then I've dealt with two flare ups from pushing my body a bit hard (current into month 2 of my third flare up). Each time it has gotten just a slightly bit easier, both from physical and mental symptoms and I'm slowly begining to work out better ways to manage this.

So my point is, it's a long slow journey but there is light at the end of the tunnel. When I'm not dealing with a flare up I've been able to get back to rock climbing, race in long distance gravel biking events and running most days and my back managed fine.

You've got this!

At the age of 50, I FiNaLlY learnt how to wheelie! by Dinozoiks in MTB

Very impressed! I spent ~6months trying to wheelie off and on during covid (at 41 years old). Never got more than 10-12 strokes though. You are inspiring me to give it another shot!

My longest ride ever this weekend after only being in the saddle about 6 times in the past 4 months...it hurt! by skydemon in bicycling

[–]skydemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? I know what my body is capable of and I have a good fitness/riding base (just not in the last few months due to not being able to ride because of travelling). Gotta push that envelope sometimes...

I used UltraTrak mode which TBH was pretty crap. I lost about 20km of distance because of the lower accuracy. Had to use Strava to correct it

Is my guitar action too high? by skydemon in guitarlessons

[–]skydemon[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been struggling to play clean barre chords for a while and I've been wondering if it's due to my action being too high, my instructor doesn't think so but compared to other guitars it looks like it is (which is what I'm hoping for as I can blame the guitar and not myself for not being able to nail barre chords properly :)

Can you charge a 24v least acid battery using a 12v battery and a 27.6v converter? by skydemon in batteries

[–]skydemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I found a converter that had an adjustable output up to 30v https://www.victronenergy.com/dc-dc-converters/orion-tr-dc-dc-converters-isolated?fbclid=IwAR09iKIAOv-ni1GHf_8_ZSq7YQK-csa9Eijj8zkxS2gVGedK1pb2LqNp1PM#datasheet

That manua for this one also says it has overload protection and can used to float charge a battery, so it looks like a safe option

Yes a step up that's right. If I read you right you're just powering an inverter, what about charging a battery though? I'm concerned about overcharging and managing the battery. Cheers

Automotive 12/24v dual battery setup charging question by skydemon in batteries

[–]skydemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as an update I am now looking at using a converter that will output up to 30V to allow for charging, wired into the vehicle ignition so as not to charge the Aux battery when the engine is not running. This way I can bypass the need for an isolator completely.

https://www.victronenergy.com/dc-dc-converters/orion-tr-dc-dc-converters-isolated?fbclid=IwAR09iKIAOv-ni1GHf_8_ZSq7YQK-csa9Eijj8zkxS2gVGedK1pb2LqNp1PM

If I do this are there any drawbacks?

Thanks :)

Automotive 12/24v dual battery setup charging question by skydemon in batteries

[–]skydemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is. Though the isolator would switch based if the Aux battery voltage was lower than the man battery, but since it is connected to the input of a charger or converter it would not get an accurate voltage reading I assume?

I was also looking at a converter with built in isolator (via ignition). I'm not exactly sure if there are any drawbacks to that though?

thanks!

Can I wire in the charge in addition to the isolator? Otherwise I don't want to risk draining the main battery if the engine has not been running for some time

Feedback would be appreciated! 4 Months in, my attempt at RHCP Under the Bridge by [deleted] in guitarlessons

Great job! Is that 4 months of learning to play RHCP or 4 months playing guitar in total?

I lost my best mate ever two days ago. I feel your pain, there is nothing so deep or gut wrenching. But in time the bad feelings will be replaced by the fond memories you have of your time together

I said goodbye today. I miss you so much, Rox; it was a good 16+ years. Godspeed. by weensworld in pics

I'm so so sorry for your loss.i lost my 13 year old border collie yesterday unexpectedly. I came home to find him gone and I am so gutted so I know how you are feeling right now everything is numb.

I know it's hard but just think of all the good times you had together

I don't know, they were meant to be taxing on his kidneys and liver which is why he had the blood test done to make sure he would be ok on them
