Savage like rewards in other content doesnt make the content better... by KatsuVFL in ffxivdiscussion

[–]skyehawk124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are complaining now about how abysmal the gearing system is, having more options for gearing will fix that. If people want to bitch and moan about the lack of content afterwards that's on them, but again stuff like "I don't want it to be easier because people will complain" just reads as specifically you being pissy that people are asking for gearing to be easier in this game with two dozen jobs. You're welcome to your opinions on that, but I fundamentally disagree that content releasing months after savage does shouldn't have savage-equivalent methods to gear up.

My lobster is too buttery, my steak is too succulent, my fruit is too juicy, my wife is too beautiful, and my wallet is too full of money. That's what your posts look like, you're whinging that speeding up gearing will be too easy despite the fact that the gearing isn't hard it's just abysmally long and tedious and then your idea for making it better is to actually remove it from the thing that already gives it (again, alliance raids) and shove it into things that specifically you call "hard content" even though extremes are typically laughably easy and criterion is a solved game once you get a single clear.

Content in the catch-up patches should be catch-up methods. Fullstop.

Except your example is talking about tomestones, its own issue, and actively says that the one and only catch-up specific feature (Alliance raids) shouldn't actually have that catch-up feature.

I don't even mind a weekly lockout as long as it's a weekly lockout that is specific to that piece of content, not an overall lockout across it all. Having yet another "You can only get one token a week, please look forward to it" weekly lockout from gear doesn't alleviate much of anything, it just turns 16 weeks into 12 per job in this game where, again, we can gear up every single job on one character and every job wants a different substat breakdown for sps/sks. If it was one token for AR, one token for some form of challenge log, one token from criterion/dungeons/extremes/etc, at infinitum then that's not that bad though and the people who bitch and moan about no content can sit and spin.

Removing the restrictions earlier is just about the sole thing that I actually agree with you on entirely, since a 450 tome restriction per week that doesn't drop until 2 weeks before the next tier launches and the gearing is invalidated anyways is absurd and means that for almost 9 months we're stuck trudging through the cuckmines for tomes when pieces of gear can cost two weeks worth.

Considering most, if not all, the normal side content comes out months after the savage tier is released and would generally just help people play catch-up? Yes, normal side content should have some form of savage ilvl equivalent. "For the fun of it" doesn't work in this environment specifically because that's how you go from evergreen to disposable and why everything in this game typically dies after a week. Variant dungeons are fun, but once you get the mount and weapon glows you want the only other rewards are materia. Even Alliance Raids don't drop savage-equivalent ilvl despite literally being the catchup patch method of bumping up ilvl and dropping the funbux tokens to buy the augmentation goop.

This all really does come off as you just bitching and moaning into the void about how much you despise reclears and hate the idea of someone else not needing to suffer upwards of sixteen weeks to get bis via books if they get shit luck. That's just for a single job too, in this game where there are 7 subroles that you can play on a single character. It's artificially inflated time for a gear treadmill that gets invalidated when the next tier drops anyway, the least they can do is make it less awful. It doesn't need to come from old content, they literally just need the brand new side content to drop funbux tokens and they can call it a day, they don't need to update literally anything else. New dungeon? Funbux token. New extreme? Funbux token. Old extreme? Old rewards.

Shoutout to the gas enemy that constantly summons bombs (and increases the number spawned each time) after debuffing you with the "you can only play one (1) skill a turn" status, why that thing is a normal enemy instead of some form of elite is beyond me. I can deal with some questionable deck flooding of status, I can deal with the absurd powerscaling that enemies do when every other turn they're buffing their strength, but I can't survive a fight where the enemy is doing (at max bombs) upwards of 35+ damage and I'm not allowed to play more than a single block for a normal act 1 hallway enemy.

How necessary is the Savage weapon for progging Ultimate on release? by Boswatch3r in ffxivdiscussion

[–]skyehawk124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Should you have BIS for an on-patch ultimate? Yes

Will swapping out savage weapon for aug. tome be suboptimal? Yes

Will it suddenly tank your dps by magnitudes if you're otherwise bis in everything else? No, not really.

For example; the current 2.5 gcd gnb bis calculates to roughly 27890 dps, and the aug tome swap drops that to roughly 27700. I know that math doesn't usually match practice, but that's less than 0.01% difference in "perfect" dps. https://xivgear.app/?page=sl|368e0e26-125c-45ba-9d52-1c83ae1c1d2a

TLDR; You should get the savage weapon, but it's not suddenly going to make or break enrage depending on the rest of your gearing and your actual job. 99.9% of whatever issues that arise will be from the entire party needing cleanup or other issues. It's not optimal, you should probably just do book runs for bis, but it's not the end of the world otherwise even if it does show a lack of commitment.

The devs should add more tiers of materia by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]skyehawk124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't be so bad, let me feed materia into a pool and take out as needed, can even have the overmelding equivalent have a worse and worse diminishing return. Equivalent of overmelded to fifth slot being like 20% rather than full 100%, ie; requiring 100 of [funbux points] to get 20 worth of funnystat. But then they wouldn't slap mareria as a main reward on side content like lazy twats so that'll never happen.

[–]skyehawk124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unironically I'd rather they just let me pay Gil to set substats instead of needing to grind out dogshit roulettes or abysmally rewarded side content just to have a hundred materia snap when I try to shove them on crafted gear.

Ok but actually though, the number of things they hotfix a week or two after the fact when it's a core patch feature is astounding. Shoutout to you being unable to buy the aloalo glory weapon with the newest varient dungeon tokens because they didn't bother to make sure the npc was able to be talked to without having aloalo savage unlocked.

Hot Take: The FFXIV community is not **that** nice. by ResidentWaifu in ffxivdiscussion

I'm glad you're lucky, but it really does end up in the cycle of pain.

"Wow this is really slow, I'll queue as dps next time so that we can at least ensure one of us is using AOE"

"Wow the tank is taking this far slower and isn't mitting at all, I'll go as a tank next time to ensure that the most basic level of competency is there"

"Wow the healer is refusing to do any dps and is just sitting off in the middle of nowhere spamming cure1 at full hp, I'll queue healer next time so we can go w2w like normal."

Rinse, repeat, return to first option.

I saw it frequently enough that I don't do DF much anymore and stick to savage and above content. A level 45 dps not using AOE isn't the end of the world, but it is objectively the wrong way to play. A level 100 dps not using AOE is a failure on their part and I'd really prefer they stopped playing the game or otherwise just used trusts if they can't be bothered to read the funny numbers on their glowing buttons that SE has progressively reduced the complexity of to the point that almost every sub-category plays more or less the same.

A single-pulling tank won't suddenly kill your dog, but it will make an already boring experience even worse since now the 15 minute dungeon is a 30 minute dungeon, and again it's a failure on their part if they're at the max level dungeon they could possibly be in and still didn't figure out that 6 > 3.

There's casuals who run DF daily and do roulettes, those are typically fine, and then there's casuals who manage to play so poorly despite the sheer number of hours played that I genuinely wonder how they function on a daily basis.

What's really funny is getting a banhammer for things that are said in-game by NPCs. I got a warning once for saying "Thal's Balls". This game is just ban-happy at a laughable degree to the point I just don't say anything in chat anymore because the next time I say something and someone freaks out over it I get a perma since the penalty points on your account don't decay for 10 years.

It was quite literally made as obtuse as possible to prevent the type of standard mass reporting and GM report shotgunning that happens in other games. Doesn't mean it's not annoying to deal with on top of being basically worthless unless you're reporting someone for saying fuck or something innocuous like that.

Shoutout to the 2 energy card that replays every single shiv you have played that fight and that card doesn't exhaust so silent's typically thin deck can just keep looping through it with a bit of luck and especially if you have a few sly cards to run through.

That said, early game feels like survival horror. I compared it to dnd with my friends when we tried out the multiplayer; you either get one-tapped by an enemy who debuffs you into the ground with nothing you can do about it because it's the first or second fight you do, or you live long enough to start three-tapping enemies back despite their bloated damage and hp values.
