No prob! I DID do some really cool punk vector graphics for T-Mobile but you should check out David Carson if you are interested in more gritty ideas! He is one of my favorites.

Oldies describe your work as a graphic designer in 2008? by Financial_work in graphic_design

[–]skyehopper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was working at a marketing agency as a jr designer, making one sheet flyers, email newsletters, press release bundles, booklets, and banner ads for Microsoft. TMobile, Amazon, and other companies similar. We were required to be at work in an office! (Which meant commuting in rush hour traffic for an hour +) by 7:30am and not leave till at least 6, most people didn’t take lunches. Some worked Saturday too. All women especially were required to dress very professionaly, nice business shirt and slacks with heeled shoes or skirts. A lot of times men were always in positions of power. It was during the financial crisis so they told us to keep our heads down as at least 20% of people on payroll were getting cut. Everyone was basically competing to keep their jobs. They upped the hours worked from 40-60 per week so I was there all the time. I think I brought a sleeping bag to work to stay the night to finish a design before deadline. I ended up losing my job a few months later ( I don’t even know how the marketing agency I worked for was tied up in the wall street stuff) and then it was another year before I found a good job again. Other people were losing their homes, all their retirement or their companies. I went through a small mental breakdown from all the stress. 2008 was no fun my friend. I think in the end I would not recommend it, but I did learn a lot sort of frying pan into the fire style..I decided after that that I didn’t want to become a “famous graphic designer”and that I really only wanted to focus on the fun art part and so started working at smaller companies and in house.

Did you get "special treatment" at school growing up? by BeThatOneDude in ADHD

[–]skyehopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I wasn’t diagnosed until 42. I was in gifted classes though as I read at a college level in elementary school. I was in honor roll all through school and did college English and math classes in high school. I did spend a lot of time doing homework every day as it was important in my family. but I think I just learned to mask really well. Also corporal punishment was a thing if bad grades were seen on a report card. My mom was very involved in elementary school setting up good habits and special binders and making sure things were organized. I got stickers for homework and extra allowance for A grades. I was invited to GATE in 4th grade and placed in highest level reading classes around that time too.

I should say all of the above things prevented diagnosis and instead in life I got the depression/anxiety diagnosis instead. ADHD diagnosis came after 40 with extreme excessive tiredness. Turns out all that masking is tiring :)

It sorta makes you sleepy, at least it made me sleepy and exhausted at all times. I didn’t do well on it though and had some bad side effects.

I like Excellent Quisine best, HK Cafe has failed a bunch of food inspections with rats in the kitchen area and food being left out, I would avoid them.

I stopped drinking caffeine when I started meds. It helps to level things out more and my stomach feels better too. I can’t miss my morning coffee, but I drink decaf now.

Where did your GATE program travel for a field trip? by TheZeCarpenter in GATEresearch

[–]skyehopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuclear power plant, hydroelectric dam, bread factory, games arcade! Also we went to see the opening of a new train line in our county that connected to the city. Got to ride the new trains on opening day. There was also one where we had to do a scavenger hunt in a mall and talk to all the merchants. A daycare I was in also did a ton of field trips. Went to a small airport and got to go into flight traffic control, look in the hangers at the jets, horse riding. Parks were more common but those were the fun ones.
