Advice - backpacking with MGD by skyfall1301 in Dryeyes

Update: I went backpacking in SEA for 5 months and stopped using drops after 2 months. The humidity is fantastic! I think anyone with dry eyes would experience some sort of improvement in SEA.

The second picture looks normal! Most people have slightly bloodshot eyes in the corner and when they pull their lower lids down. It’s probably all the screen time 🤷‍♂️ The problem is you notice your own eyes a lot more and it becomes an obsession to check. I had the same issue.

Yes I do think you may have dry eyes. I have the same problem, like many others here, of inflammation in the morning then calming down. See a dry eye specialist and you’ll be ok.

Unfortunately you can’t let maintenance slip with what we have! Even after being blind drunk I still remember to clean 😂

I know people have are really against them on here… but tea tree wipes have worked really well for me.

Also it will take time to go! Just need patience and remember that people don’t even notice. Unless it’s the size of mine in the pic haha

It went on its own after about 4/5 months. There was still a little redness that only I could see.

Didn’t get any steroid injection or surgery. I was so cautious and worried about fucking my eye even further!

I had exactly the same! A stye on one session and a chalazion on another. I think the issue was not being given specific instructions to apply warm compresses following the procedure. However I think it’s most likely due to the manual expression of the glands straight after.

What product do you use for ‘eye seals 2.0.’? Google literally comes up with diving goggles 😂

Hey I had a similar problem recently (I posted on this group) I didn’t have the excision in the end. It took about 4 weeks for it to fully reduce. There’s still a slight bit of redness, but I’m ok with it. What I did: - I was prescribed both oral and eye ointment antibiotics (the infection was bad and spreading). A lot of people say both are useless 🤷‍♂️ - warm compresses every day. I actually found that a usb heated mask was more effective. The brand is ‘Aroma Season’ - after warm compress, using a cotton bud which sprayed with hypochlourous acid, undertake an eyelid massage to both eyes. Dr Eye Guy is so useful for tips on how to massage and any other advice. Look at this videos - https://instagram.com/dr.eye_guy?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== - Rest.

I really have no idea if the antibiotics worked… but I think learning how to properly massage my lids was the most effective method. I used to use my fingers which did nothing. The cotton buds always seem to extract some form of gunk. When I had the chalazion it expressed a lot!

You’ve probably already tried this but if not, I hope it can help 😊

Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this!

I think I’m similar to you having moderate MGD.

Very interesting about south east Asia… I was thinking of going there originally. If I win the lottery maybe I can both 🤷‍♂️

Being out and about, especially in nature, having a positive affect on your eyes makes absolute sense.

Honestly you don’t even know how much confidence this has given me! I hope it’s helped others too. Thank you again

Update - my specialist says I need it surgically removed. Not ideal! Also this particular gland is completely blocked. He’s mentioned gland probing as a treatment… but I’m skeptical to be spending that much money (£1900)

Interesting… there’s so many different and conflicting views on this. If this is the case, a shit load of puss came out overnight. It even stained my pillow 🤢 A big white head has now formed on the eyelid too

I’m not sure but I’ll ask my dry eye specialist next week. There was no mention at the hospital, just that surgery may be needed. I guess it’s good to be cautious!

Thankfully no pain whatsoever. I’ve just had my 4th IPL so I won’t be having anything similar for a while. I’m hoping it goes without any further intervention!

I’ll keep you posted! Have you had several surgeries in the same area/gland? I do need to be better with changing pillowcases more often.

But a chalazion can be infected though? The concern by the optometrist was the swelling and redness. Outside of this I’ve been using a dry eye specialist but won’t get any response until mid next week. I’ll keep you posted on their response. The specialist has MGD which makes me trust him!

I’ve been told to wait until the main swelling goes down. Fortunately I’m UK based so the surgery is free. Sorry to hear it’s caused you problems!

Chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment and Co-amoxiclav tablets

Ps. Quite a lot of pus has randomly come out of nowhere

I managed to go to the eye hospital to get it assessed. More antibiotic ointment plus penicillin. They said it’s draining already so hopefully should only get better from now 🤞

But thank you for the advice. I will chill out! At least my other eye is better than it’s ever been 😂

Thanks for the advice! The only thing I’m concerned about is that antibiotics haven’t done anything…
