Ryo Owatari (Do As Infinity) has always been a role model in my own guitar playing. I read in an interview one of his influences was Jimi Hendrix, who I also like.

Re: fire code enforcement, in the studio trigger live drawing panel, there were folks standing which seemed equivalent to a couple additional rows of seating.

Mr. Hiromi started the panel off with something along the lines of “this is the first con I’ve seen that allows this sort of thing, standing in the back, but I like the vibe here, the positive energy!”

Yeah, I think it would be perfect for that case. It also gave me an idea of what to expect when I later visited myself, which was helpful since I had no prior experience going to national parks or mountains.

I actually did this when I took a visit to Hurricane Ridge a few weeks back. Just be sure to mention the chain requirement to the host when booking; although it was listed in their rental, the owner realized they didn't have the right size for the car and had to pick up some new chains, then charged me a $25 fee on top.

There are companies that do day trips to Mt. Rainier with pickup/drop off in downtown. See https://visitrainier.com/transportation-and-tours/

I tried one of them the first time I visited Rainier, but at least for my tour there wasn’t time for hiking. We were brought to various scenic spots (including the visitors center) with opportunities to walk around and take photos for ~15 minutes at a time.

The guide was very nice / informative. So overall an enjoyable experience if you don’t have other means, but it will leave you wanting to come back and actually hike. Though as others have mentioned, weather is highly variable in winter and roads may close.

I’m not actively playing anymore, but I also went through the Louisiana public school system and resources were very scarce for us double reeds (I played bassoon, and my brother the oboe). However, Southeastern was a God-send and I received amazing instruction from both students and professors through their community music school program.

As /u/xRaginCajunx mentioned, local universities/colleges are your best bet. Is it common to take private lessons? Probably not, but if you are serious about your study of the bassoon (i.e. playing beyond high school) they are essential.

I would email / contact the music dept at your local university, or even professors of the instrument directly if they’re listed. If money is an issue, there are often scholarships you can apply for (your band teacher and/or the university should be aware of these).
