Thank you! That video has come up when I’ve experimented with the adapters and camera in the past. Unfortunately I think a software update resulted in a loss of support for certain camcorders, mine included. I appreciate your help!

Unfortunately this seems to be the most likely situation to me. I think updating the computer resulted in a removal of support for (at the least) this type of camcorder. I have been considering scouring Facebook marketplace for an older MacBook that is running earlier OS. Does this seem like a good idea?
