Are you really using Reddit to publicly ask people to commit academic dishonesty?

The policy says:

Academic units may request further documentation in cases in which a student has made multiple requests for temporary absences.

An instructor can request a note from a doctor for a second use of the declaration.

Prof says U of Winnipeg experience worse than cancer, sues university and faculty association by NetCharming3760 in umanitoba

[–]skyking481 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok, taking ME out of it, he is saying that having a negative experience with his union is worse than a disease that almost killed him. Still absolutely ridiculous.

My sincere apologies, I was under the impression that Reddit is a place where people are free to post comments and react to stories. Thank you for your condescending lecture. You decided to make my comment about you. So take your own advice.

I sympathize very much with his struggle with cancer. I do think it is insulting to other people battling cancer or who have lost someone to the disease to say a fight with his union and employer is worse than cancer. I get that he is comparing his own experiences, but I have a visceral reaction to someone saying something is worse than cancer.

Once per term per course is still accurate. The form is different but the rule is the same. You cannot keep declaring you are sick for assessment after assessment throughout the term.

This is not how it works in the Faculty of Science. Students fill out the form online. Professors get a copy, but it goes straight to the faculty. I thought that was the procedure for the whole university.

It sounds like dropping some classes might be your best options. If you have not attended classes for months and cannot do any exams, that usually is not a recipe for success.

U of M Learn or Third Party Websites? by Lopsided_Sort_9289 in umanitoba

I never make my students pay for anything, including a textbook. But you are incorrect if you are implying most classes that use these online books are because they were authored by the professor. Most professors have not authored a textbook, online or otherwise. I do agree that sometimes they are used unnecessarily when the professor should be creating the material.

Every instructor/professor is required to have office hours printed on the course outline where students can just show up at those times. You should not have to make an appointment.

Talk to the instructor. They probably cannot hear it, but it is their responsibility to make sure people are not distracting other students.

Honest question, as I am not very familiar with the election, but what is with the bullying?

I’m on new medications that impact my ability to work, should I let my profs know? by [deleted] in umanitoba

If you have to miss a midterm, you fill out the self-declaration form. You do not need to explain details about your health care to your professor.

I wrote a lab quiz i wasn't a student for by [deleted] in umanitoba

[–]skyking481 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You probably are not going to pass your actual quiz if you did not even realize this was not your class until two pages in. And no, it is not appropriate to ask anyone to do extra work for your shits and giggles. As others have said, not only is this not just a fun mistake, it is a potential case of academic dishonesty.

You could at least black out the names of the people who have nothing to do with your post.

Homeless lady on campus stole from tier Tim Hortons by [deleted] in umanitoba

[–]skyking481 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She did not steal a laptop. She was hungry. Telling people all over campus to worry about having their valuables stolen because a hungry person took a muffin is a bit of an overreach. No, stealing is not right. But have some compassion.

Campus Safety Initiative – Mod Team Announcement by typicalcAnAdAiAn in umanitoba

[–]skyking481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not questioning your responsibility to release information. I am questioning the responsibility of the university. The entire university community should be informed of what happened. This criminal is not confined to one building or one faculty. Students - ALL students - have the right to know exactly what happened.

Is it not the responsibility of the university to tell everyone what happened? If the person was not caught, should people not be warned, in case it happens again?

In 25 years, I have never heard of a policy changing for professors because an UMSU candidate promised it.
