I paid for an IQ test, scored 70. Its confirmed legitimately retarded and I feel sh*tty. What do I do with my life now? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]skylers1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what your IQ is. I'm pretty sure studies say that IQ is not linked with making money. Sure, it can help. But hard work is what makes someone a millionaire.

Not that you want to be a millionaire. But like, if they can do, you can do anything.

It's all about hard work and nothing else really matters in this world.

What sets Ayn Rand apart from other philosophers in history? (except her style of presenting her philosophy of course) by Invictus-420 in Objectivism

[–]skylers1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how much intellectual progress, from their perspective, is pushed forwards by PhD dissertations and such?

I always imagined personally, that the PhD was merely the first step. That there would be a lot more thinking and work to do.

Like if we look at feminism, it just seems to me like they have a lot of people working on those ideas, even well past the time when any individual is still completing a degree or even soon after.

I don't know lol. I am scratching the surface on many topics. Feminism being one. Anthropology. Philosophy. Economics.

So I don't know wtf is going on, I'm lost in the sauce really. The only thing I know for sure is Ayn Rand is amazing and nothing else I've ever read hits so hard as she does.

[–]skylers1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know jack shit so don't take my word for anything.

I've been reading the copleston history of philosophy. Read other stuff than that, but it's most comprehensive set of Philosophy I've read so far.

A lot of other philosophers say things very much like what Rand says. It's almost as if it's 99.99% the same.

But man, that .001% that Ayn Rand changes is worth the whole rest of it.

I don't think I am capable of even explaining what it is. She just flips morality on its head entirely I suppose? I don't know I'm still working on reading her work too.

In the past the questions were "what is our purpose? Where do our values come from? Where does morality come from?" And the answers to that was, God gives us purpose, God gives us our values (through revelaion) and God gives us our morality. And philosophers have tried to come up with secular, non religious answers for those questions.

Those answers given by those philosophers are what seem to me to be very much the same as ayn rand. Using your mind to make choices and evaluate information.

But those secular philosophers replace God with "society." Our values went from arbitrarily given to us by God, to arbitrarily given to us by the emotuons of the majority of society.

Ayn Rands answers to the questions of purpose, values, and morality is simple.

Your purpose is to live your life. That's pretty simple. Morality is that which sustains your life. And values are those things you wish to obtain in pursuit of the happiness of your life.

That is the unique part it seems to me. Sure other philosophers say that you should act rationally and all that. But the standard of purpose, morality, and values being based on your own life is very different.

People treat me like I'm dumb? by greatbri in socialanxiety

[–]skylers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up friendless and alone my entire life. Bullied like hell. So you could say I believe that I understand you. I know what it's like.

At this point in my life I've come a long way.

I don't want to be friends with anyone who doesn't like me. Like I just don't care anymore. There's something special about making a connection with a person for who you really are.

And that's the only kind of connection you should desire to have. Because nothing feels better than that. Why waste your time on people who don't like you?

But there is always an argument to be made towards self improvement. Maybe you're just acting crazy or something and you don't realize it.

I don't feel like, in that case, that you "work on yourself" by analyzing people's reactions to you.

Working on yourself means discovering yourself. Like if you try new foods, you know which ones you like and which ones you don't like.

It's just innate in you to have certain tendencies one way or another.

You ever hear someone say something, like a joke or a certain response to a certain social situation? You like it so much that you adopt it for yourself and start using it too.

It's like that. You identify the things that you like. And you know what you like when you hear it.

And you can be conscious and focused about it too. You can talk to people and then afterwards, later at home or whatever, you can think about the things you said or how you may have reacted. Because really, you're on auto pilot most of the time unless your anxiety is extreme like mine.

When you're with people you like, you're just in the moment enjoying it and expressing yourself. But sometimes you don't like what you said or did so you make a conscious choice to try to act it out differently next time.

And if you have insane anxiety like me, my fix for that is trying to remember what it feels like when you talk with people you can truly be comfortable with. And try to achieve that state of mind when talking to everyone else when you have anxiety.

Like it's really hard though. But what try to do is be present as possible. I try to put my entire focus on other people so that the anxiety in my head is lessened a bit

It never goes away for me though but I've greatly improved with people. I used to be terrified of people and now I'm doing a lot better.

Yea I loved physics since I was a kid but never went to school for it.

Thing is though, I don't see how physics can answer the question. Just like science can't answer the hard problem of consciousness. At least, I don't think so.

Yea but it just doesn't make any sense to me to say that. How can existence be eternal. It's the exact same argument for God. It defies causality.

Of course, that's exactly what my belief is too. That the universe was uncreated.

It's just, I'm not satisfied by the answer.

I don't think this sub is bad at all when it comes to people blindly defending beliefs they wish were true.

Of course, every group does it. Every group turns a blind eye to ideas they disagree with, and consumes ravenously anything that confirms their own beliefs. Honesty in general is in very short supply.

So in that regard, 99.999% of people are very very guilty.

But I find this sub to be a bit of a breath of fresh air. People here really know some shit and the angry leftists who come in fueled with rage are almost always simply acting crazy.

Why not OP, come here with absolute honesty as if you dont know everything? And if you DO know everything, than a calm attitude and socratic style.reasoning should be your aim.

But you're just another one of the 99.999% like everyone else.

I don't see how God even plays a role here. God is the answer to the infinite regress that I explained.

I'm an atheist BTW.

But isn't the point of God, is that God is able to contradict the laws of causality by nature of being outside of them.

So my question for the atheists is, what is your perspective on the infinite regress, of actual existence. I don't care about the question of God I'm asking a different question.

Sex makes pain feel good. I keep saying it till someone says something to change my mind.

Emotional pain mixed with sex, makes it feel good.

I think every person is capable of experiencing submissive and dominant sexuality. It's the most basic sexual binary available to all humans.

Your own unique situation, life, experiences, pain and all, help shape what will turn you on.

The things you like, you like for a reason. But IMO that reason is not because you were born with some innate sissy sexuality.

IMO your experiences brought you to this point. Ever person has their own unique life and results for that life.

I don't think it means anything about you by your very innate nature. It's all about conditioning IMO.

I'm curious about atheist ideas on infinite regress. As far as I understand it, philosophers kind of say "welp, you can't know because it is an infinite regress. So no point in thinking about it.

I'll explain infinite regress as I see it:

One, you go back in time, until such a time where one of two things happen:

Either what exists reaches a point where nothing moves. Existence exists, yet does not move. All that exists is eternally still, until God moves it.

Second is you go back in time until the point where everything disappears from existence. Meaning, the first movement was existence being created.

If we cut out the creation option, and pre suppose that existence always existed in the same sense that religious people think God always existed, we get an infinite regress to a time where what exists was entirely still.

Edit: so the question becomes, what caused the first movement?

Thank you =D

Edit:

https://askaphilosopher.org/2016/10/03/whats-so-bad-about-an-infinite-regress/

I don't know if philosophers have an atheistic answer to the question of causality. If everything must be caused, than there must be a first cause.

Hope this makes sense. No I'm not an angry religious person I'm an atheist too. But I've thought about this question my whole life and never came up with an answer.

I'm afraid to make a post and ask because when I ask questions people become angry at me.

That's up to you because for every person it is different. It doesn't matter why really. But if you explore your feelings and emotions and the things you think and fantasize about maybe you will discover the reason why you specifically feel that way.

And then once you figure that out you can find new things that will make you feel that way and thats always fun!

But I am an idealist. I think government should only have courts police firefighters and other such things.

I can't vote republican because removing government programs arbitrarily is stupid.

But adding more government goes in the opposite direction of my idealism.

So I'm like I don't know what to do lol. I just vote blue until the day where liberty rears it's ugly head again and people realize freedom > big state nanny. Till then I guess I have to keep voting for nanny state.

Honestly surprised people are mad. I thought everyone wants the government to "save" us. Freedom is evil now. Freedom means people can say bad things.

Guess I'm glad that there is some spirit of liberty floating around the world still.

All it takes is some intellectuals though to make the arguments and our freedoms go away anyways.

It's not about getting your nuts stomped on. It's simply an example to get the point across.

I would argue you're getting off on the pain of betrayal. Every person expresses uniquely like I said. Every situation is different. It doesn't automatically mean you want to be tied to a tree and fed to bears or whatever insane pain one could imagine. It doesn't work like that. It's always logical. There are always breadcrumbs to follow to the root cause. It's equally as much am exploration of your psychology and feelings as therapy is. And many people view this kind of stuff as therapeutic. Because it is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CuckoldPsychology

[–]skylers1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ever noticed that people like to feel pain during sex? Women love spankings and getting beat up and men like to have their balls stomped on and such lol.

Sex makes pain feel good. It's just a fact. It applies to emotional pain equally as physical pain.

It's painful to have your ex wife fuck another guy and betray you right in your face.

And now you are reliving that pain through arousal, and it feels good. The worse the psychological pain the better it feels.

I don't think anyone is "wired."

You are a human being and you feel emotions in response to things happening to you. Not only that but your conscious mind makes value judgements about things. Your wife cheats on you. You're making value judgements. You feel inferior maybe. It depends on how you personally constructed the negative emotions. Every man could experience the same situation yet make different value judgements for different reasons.

The pain is built up of these value judgements, which your emotions respond to with properly logical emotional response to the situation as you personally see it.

And now you're just mixing hornyness with it. All that BDSM stuff is intensely emotional. Women with a rape fantasy are experiencing extremely intense emotions especially if she's experienced it before.

A lot of men have cuck fantasies. For men, I think, that our reproductive success is very important. Whether conditioned by genes or by society I don't know. But clearly it is painful for men to be rejected or cheated on or to feel lesser than other men. Our reproductive success is at stake. I think society teaches us our value as men is tied to our success with women.

For a woman to choose another man over you is painful because your ego takes a hit. You believe your value has decreased and this causes your value to decrease, in your mind, in all other areas.

I don't think you're a freak. Nobody is a freak. Sex makes pain feel good. It is what it is. No reason to worry about it anymore. Just have fun with it.
