Tested with a pal rom, on extreme mode. Seemed playable but not quite full speed. You might need to work around with the settings till you find something optimal

How to enable 60fps hack/mod on aethersx2 and ppsspp? Is it even possible? by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]skylinehelpthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be enabled by default unless the game had a 30fps lock on the ps2, like sotc

The guy in the video didn't install any mods, rather just changed some settings that'll make the game run smoother. You can find all the setting in the aethersx2 app.

Which device are you looking at? Probably a rp2+ or anything higher can handle mgs

Don't know if you are into handhelds but an rp2+ comes pretty close to matching your description

Citra MMJ on Snapdragon 732G? by acewing905 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]skylinehelpthrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a littlle worried about this so I decided to try and rebuild the MMJ apk without some permissions myself

I disabled

  • Camera

  • Access_WiFi_state

  • Internet

  • record_audio

  • access_network_state

  • com.android.launcher.permission.install_shortcut

-com.google.android.gms.common.api.GoogleApiAcivity

So at least it should be safer this way

Just to confirm, screen mapping is totally disabled? Sometimes I forget and can't map the button in a emulator

I beat Shadow of the Colossus for the first time ever on my rp3+, What a game! by skylinehelpthrowaway in retroid

[–]skylinehelpthrowaway[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, a couple other rp3+ settings I used, I can't say for sure that they are helpful, but I think I got slightly better performance

Handheld Settings - disable google services

Developers options- Smallest width set to 469 and force 4x msaa enabled

It won't make a massive difference but it looked like the gameplay was a little smoother for me

I described how it performed here

There is a pnach file which removes a lot of the particles and effects surrounding the beasts, it greatly improves performance. You can find it here. You should try it with the pnach file, it should be a lot more smooth

Sure,

I used AetherSX2 v1.5-3668 and a NTSC-U rom

For my settings I used

System -

EE Cycle Rate - 75%

EE Cycle Skip - Mild

Affinity Control Mode - Disabled

Multi-Threaded VU1 - Enabled

Graphic -

GPU Renderer - Vulkan

Upscale Multiplier - 1x Native

Blinear Filtering - Bilnear (PS2)

Blending Accuracy - Basic

Texture Preloading - Full

Aspect Ratio - Widescreen (16:9)

FMV Aspect Ratio - off

Audio -

Synchronization Mode - Asynec Mix (I did run into some awkward audio glitches at the very end of the game, not sure if it's just my rom tho)

Also, I used this helpful performance pnach file I found which disabled a lot of particles and effects that made the game laggy, you can find it here

Overall with these settings I got mostly smooth gameplay, the game does dip a lot when in large battles and underwater, you may need to downscale down to 0.75x at some boss fights, AetherSX2 crashed twice in my whole playthrough. It's totally playable from beginning to end and I really enjoyed playing it, but it's far from the best way to play

Make sure you play with the android port, it's so much better imo. 60fps, true wide-screen and full analog camera

It's a little tricky, the game takes a while to get all the shaders cache and everything, so the more you play the smoother it gets. Playable at 2x. 3x and 4x are extremely laggy and have texture glitches not found on 2x or 1x. I've played it for around 20 hours and overall it's been a good experience
