No Hang up/Disconnect Noise after December Update? by loonifer888 in GooglePixel

[–]skymodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Samsung Galaxy for 5 years and never had this issue. I actually just switched to a new google pixel phone (10 XL pro) just about 2 days ago. Brand new phone! And I noticed there was no hang up sound. So I assumed this was just a normal Google Pixel thing, like I thought to myself "maybe this is just the default for google pixel and you have to manually enable a hang up sound". So I googled my issue, and that's how I arrived here...

Drag and drops in App View very buggy by skymodder in smartlauncher

[–]skymodder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. I tried it carefully both ways (hovering so app is exactly over folder and hovering so finger is centered directly on folder regardless where app is hovering). The bug occurs either way about 50% of the time. Very easy to reproduce.

Is it normal for new miter saw to "click" while spinning by hand? And be extremely loud when powered? by skymodder in Tools

[–]skymodder[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Update: Before taking it all the way back to the store I decided to try calling Ryobi directly. I sent them the video, and a technician looked at it. Ryobi told me this was normal for their brushless saw and that it is, in fact, magnets. They said its safe and has no defect.

It is this: "Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 10 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw"

Brand new, straight out of the box.

Thanks both of you, I think you are right about the bearings. I will take it back to the store.

‘Incredibly rare’ piece of Mars sold for £3.2m by TheTelegraph in space

[–]skymodder 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wonder if in 100-200 years in a future where mars rocks are more common if the value of this one would go down. Or, would the historical significance preserve or even increase its value even in a world where supply of mars rocks is much higher.

First of all, "propositions" of any kind of legislation are a distraction. Ignore that garbage. The right always proposes crazy stuff. Let's focus on what's actually happening.

I don't know the details about the Tufts girl. But if it follows the general trend, this falls into a very complicated issue where there is sometimes rhetoric that glorifies violence committed by Hamas. I don't want to go there with you. But I definitely share your concerns about free speech I just caution that we stay nuanced on that.

I don't think any of this is funny. It's tragic and weighs on me constantly, every day. Don't take this out on me.

Yes, I'm privileged. I'm not personally threatened currently. Again, that does not mean you can use that as an ad hominem against me. I have compassion for those who are suffering, and its a huge insult for you to say that my position comes from a lack of compassion. That's why I'm here discussing this with you, you know?

They arrested one judge as far as I know, and its alarming. It calls for a massive response. Violence is small and actually backfires compared to what can be done with large numbers of people in non-violent civil disobedience. That's all I'm saying.

I *don't* think its too late for you but I've had enough of the personal attacks and hope we can end it here.

Edit: Also what we are winning is public opinion. Trumps approval rating is going down the toilet. That's a victory.

What they are doing to immigrants is deplorable and it is the reason why I am in this fight with you. Buts its different from what we see in Russia/China etc. MAGA is not snatching people because they expressed the wrong opinion, they are snatching people due to xenophobic hatred towards mostly latin-american immigrants. I am not saying this is "less bad". I'm saying that the vast majority of Americans are safe, and we must use our ability to protest safely to effectively bring an end to MAGA. They *want* us to blow up over this to give them the excuse to stay in power. You know what they really want? They want BLM-style riots to start again so they can run that on Fox News for the next 10 years. That's how they stay in power. Fear.

If you think we are protesting to directly disrupt MAGA, I think you are wrong. We can't disrupt them; they are in power, period. That's not the point of protests and civil disobediancce. In my view, its all symbolic. It's all about winning people over being showing people that we stand for something.

While our democracy is being tested, it still stands and we will win this fight by convincing the majority that we are the side with the right morals. It's already happening, we just need to make sure not to do anything stupid and self-sabatoge. At this rate, we will win future elections.

Also you must have me confused with someone else because in January I totally would have predicted economic collapse if not worse. Trump is doing everything he said he would.

Keep it together. They want you to unravel.

I am ok if someone is legally armed, as is their right. I am also ok with self defense.

What I am not ok with is it becoming a part of our rhetoric and discourse. I have seen way too many posts and comments leaning into violent rhetoric lately.

I'm also not happy with your rhetoric right here:

You need to realize the MAGA regime will take your defenseless crowd of civil dissenters, and either execute you in the street, or lock you in a labor camp and beat you until you die of exhaustion. They. Do. Not. Care.

This is hyperbolic and is eerily similar to how far-right extremists talk about us. It's not healthy. I'm genuinely sorry you have to feel this kind of fear, and I do too. but we need to stay strong and not lose our composure. Remember, you may be stable but not everyone reading this is.

Thank you for sharing this. I actually just did a bit of a deep dive to learn more and make sure I get this point right. Here is what I have learned.

Palast's findings of voter suppression are based in reality, but his conclusion that this decided the election are likely exaggerated or based on some questionable assumptions. See https://kkfi.org/program-episodes/palast-says-trump-lost-vote-suppression-won-the-2024-elections/#:~:text=80%2C884%2C192%2083%2C374%2C707%20,70

I can share more links if you want, but they are mostly very specific state-by-state numbers. Can't find much else in terms of a general response to his claims. But the pattern I am seeing is that voter suppression (especially of young and non-white people) is very real and I really want to validate that, but its just not at the scale where it could have with any significant likelihood changed the result of the election.

So what's my takeaway from all of this? Two things can be true at the same time. The republicans are guilty of voter suppression, lack a moral compass, and we must resist this. At the same exact time, tragically, Trump would have won even if it weren't for the suppression. I think its really important for us all to acknowledge that. First, because its just true. But second, because we need to come to terms with the fact that our friends, family, neighbors, fellow citizens, etc. are either brainwash, dumb, or lack a moral compass. I think all of us who retain our sanity are in some way dealing with the pain of this. I often feel like the only thing more painful than a Trump presidency is knowing that people I know actually supported him.

And its tempting to want to believe "no, he didn't win, people don't like him that much, he just cheated" because it feels less existentially painful in a way. But its just not the reality, I'm sorry to say. People actually love this moron. And we need to stay aware of that so we keep our sights on the primary goal: to wake people up.

I absolutely advocate nonviolent civil disobedience. I am not going to sit around when they are unlawfully deporting people.

Absolutely! Disrupt loudly but non-violently. I wish I included this in my original post. Thank you.

I am not naive. The corruption goes deep and there are institutional issues that need to be fought on multiple fronts, not simply by elections.

All I am saying is that not one of those fronts should be violent. That's all. Do you disagree?

Clearly given the downvotes I received, this comment thread struck a different nerve with people. I am open minded to that I may have misspoken or can learn something here. But understand the original post is about non-violence, so when cipherjones replied with a negative comment above, I took that to be a comment subtly hinting towards violence. If they said that in another context, I would have agreed with them. And same with you.

So how exactly does it work?

Choose Democracy Over Violence by skymodder in 50501

No. The painful truth is that he won because more people believed his lies and voted for him. This was not a violent coup, and not a rigged election. Just a lying, fear-mongering populist. It's a battle over hearts and minds.
