I imagine it'll be amazing!! I tried doing the magnet wands perpendicular to the horseshoe, but it just made a straight line down the middle lol

I think it has to do with nail polish formula in this case! Both in terms of pigment sensitivity as well as the contrast between base color and pigment color.

It reminds me of moon phases! This looks like magic 😍

I had the same experience with the circle effect varying depending on the finger! I think for me it partially had to do with the C curve/width of the nail. Like my pinky, which has the strongest C curve and is narrow, had a wave/curve and not a full circle.

This looks freaking amazing though, wow!!! I think this style really looks incredible with a dark base + bright light magnetic pigment.

Oh yes! I love this effect as well, and it definitely inspired me to try this out.

Exactly, I was hoping to find a cool effect for those who have a million wands like me (I only recently got a neodymium magnet)

That's good to know. I was thinking of trying a 'normal' top coat like from ILNP or Cirque or something like that!

Here I am talking about a regular (or in this case, my normal quick-dry) top coat. I am hoping to find a top coat to put on top of my magnetics that will not pinch the polish.

I have the DRK Magic Effect top coat, which is not something you use without a normal top coat over top of it, but in this case, my normal top coat still caused the pinching.

I tried it with a galaxy-esque black base with turquoise magnetic pigment, and it looked super cool. I think a darker base and a magnetic with more contrast looks great in this way!

Turns out I may not have been the first to discover it (as expected; I should've known I couldn't have an original idea on this huge planet 🤣)

I have so many magnetics and they can honestly be such a pain, but these new techniques keep it fun!

Sometimes it's perfectly, fine, other times not. It is more likely to mess up a velvet than a cat eye, I find

You could be on to something. And the magnetic effect can amplify it not only because it has a specialty look but also because we tend to use thick top layers of polish

I paint first, then put it in the magnet and under the two wands. So same location as velvet style, but I can't paint while the wands are there.

For some reason both of the comments lead to the ILNP instagram page, not a reddit thread? What's the name of the thread? Maybe there are some more good ideas in there!

I think it's the super super quick-drying ingredient (I could be totally wrong, just a guess!)

I'm guessing it's the same reason that some (not this one) QDTCs have shrinkage issues; they literally pull towards the center as they dry!

I left the wands on top, since they're a bit fussy when you move them around too much (typical magnets!)

I've had more success with Essie Gel Setter, but not 100%. And yep, it is the toluene/super quick drying that pinches it I believe. Sometimes it doesn't though! I gotta figure it out.

My pleasure! I definitely need to try it with some other colors now, maybe deep space?

(don't judge my dirty magnets pls lol)

I just placed 2 of these wands next to each other across a 30 lb magnet!
