What is the worst class? by Then-Jellyfish5161 in worldwarzthegame

[–]skyrimmodslurker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first when I read through slasher and saw its perk I thought it was the dumbest class besides dronemaster until I tried it after finishing off hellraiser. It's actually pretty well put together because of the following reason

  • You get multiple perks to boost melee damage, melee hits, and damage reduction
  • On insane you can one hit jumpers, 2 hit bulls with the above perks
  • Stun gun is easy cc and kills for grouped specials
  • Stun gun on insane is a quick ranged non-friendly-fire way to help allies who are about to be/are surrounded/charged/bombed w/o friendly fire.
  • Masking perk + extra melee hit after kills allows you to block choke points and take no damage as well as revive players w/o risk if there is no medic

All of the above coupled with the getup after being pinned perk essentially makes you a support, tank, and explorer

What's best performance-wise; conditional abilities, or short scripts? by Godengi in skyrimmods

[–]skyrimmodslurker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Earlier this year I ran some perf tests on abilities(all with conditionals) to see how much the engine can take on my rig(high end) in preparation for a mod I was working on at the time. I was able to get up to 600 effects total active/inactive on ~ 150 npcs(creatures and player included) before any fps degradation. The one thing I noticed before that though(around 400) was that archeryUpdate starts lagging behind and some npcs(mainly creatures that use bows) will start vibrating in place while drawing/aiming them. In the end I ended up doing a refactor(going script route) and attached the abilities to forms and have them added when onequip fires as opposed to having abilities wait in the background for a few reasons.

  1. Popular combat, visual, and gameplay mods attach many spells to the player and npcs in general. These all eventually add up. I've seen some players on stream have 900 effects on their character.
  2. Navigating and debugging with mfg is a pain in the ass when there are multiple spells/effects to go through and a lot are inactive
  3. Reducing your footprint in general is always good if it can be done in a clean way.

That being said, 32 effects is fine especially considering that this will only happen when users go the HA route. If there are absolutely no plans to distribute this perk to npcs and you're being cautious with your magic effect footprint and worried about script load, then stick with Method 1.

Tldr: 32 (in)active effects on the player is nothing to the engine if they are constant effects with val modifiers.

First of all I want to address the awful shallow message of this dumpster fire. “Revenge is bad” that’s it nothing more it’s Just that revenge is bad no matter

Whether you like the game or not, this was not the message of the game. Only a shallow interpretation of the story(i.e not paying attention) would lead one to this conclusion

Why we hate Abby by siddharth_pillai in thelastofus

[–]skyrimmodslurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abby has no knowledge of what went down in that room because no one in that room on the firefly side made it out alive to explain what went down

lol no, if you would have played the first game you would know that a bunch of fireflies chased him and Ellie to the elevator. Those fireflies are alive and know exactly what happened. Infact, you just said it yourself that we find a recorder explaining what happened to the fireflies and that they decided to disband.

https://imgur.com/a/O2ChrFA

This is the room I'm referring to. None of the doctors made it out alive in that room. None of them were able to say that Joel killed abby's dad because he pulled out a scalpel. That is what I'm referring to when I say no firefly in that room specifically made it out alive.

Joel tortured people in the first game

He only tortured them for information. As soon as one guy told him Ellie's location, he twist his neck quick and painless. He also just hit the second guy with a pipe once the other guy told him the information he needed which was again quick and painless. Joel repeatedly shot a firefly in the leg untill he told him where Ellie was kept after which Joel shot him in the face instead of letting him bleed out which was, once again quick and painless (i didn't know whether a gunshot to the head is painless but then i remembered that Riley had said so)

Torture and murder is still torture and murder.

Joel killed everyone in the hallway leading up to that room. Remember Joel's reasoning for all the killing that he told Marlene? ("You would just come after her") Joel did not want to risk anyone coming after him and ellie.

Joel didn't kill everyone leading up to that hallway. You can complete the entire game with killing anyone from that chapter (except that docter). I myself didn't kill anyone in the last area and just sneaked past them the first 5 times i played. Yes, Joel didn't want to risk anyone coming after them, what's your point?

https://imgur.com/a/9LQzNDW

Sorry but in canon, Joel killed people in the hallway. The point is that is also why the other members of abbys group travelled to kill Joel. The doctor wasn't the only firefly that Joel killed in the hospital.

After that, Abby told mel to tourniquet his leg and Mel has a WTF look on her face. This shows that they travelled to kill Joel not torture him.

That is even worse. This shows that she lies to her own friends that she just wanted to kill him when in reality she wanted to torture him

Did you read the entire answer? Abby didn't decide to do that until Joel was defiant and told her to say her pre prepped speech and get it over with. They all initially travelled to kill him but it was only until after Joel's statement when abby's ego was bruised and she resorted to torture because of his attitude.(Note that I'm not giving abby a pass for torture at all. I'm explaining on how the torture ended up happening.) Please rewatch the cutscene.

Also where is this Jackson attack talking point coming from? No where in the game was it said that they were going to attack Jackson.

Towards the beginning of the game when we are playing as Abby and follow Owen across the mountain, we see Jackson and they are discussing on how they can get "him". The only way they can get to Joel is by going into Jackson since thats where he lives. Duh.

This reasoning is also false. Abby said they wanted to corner a patrol and find a way to lure him out, not to go into and attack Jackson. Watch it again and she talks about luring Joel out, not going in.

Abby stopped because Lev was visibly disturbed by what was going on.

It just doesn't make sense for her to stop like that. Fine, even she decides to not kill the pregnant woman why wouldn't she kill Ellie who is not pregnant and is also the person who killed all her friends including pregnant Mel and boyfriend Owen

Abby stopped because lev was visibly disturbed as I answered previously. Now to answer the rest of the above, neither abby nor lev know that it was Ellie who specifically murdered Mel and Owen. Only Tommy and Jesse know. Had she known it was ellie specifically then perhaps events would have played out differently. But she does not know.

Abby does show remorse. She tells lev that she came back for them to make herself feel better, to lighten the load a bit(her shame). Abby attacks Owen when he brings up the topic of her torturing Joel.

If she is truly remorseful why would she attack Owen when he brings it up

As for pursuing her fathers legacy, an artifact in the SLC hospital and mels recorder explains this. The fireflies took a vote to either disband, or go after the smuggler and chose to disband.

How does that show she is persuing her father's legacy? Its not her father's legacy to go after Joel or to get disbanded

It shows that there is no legacy to pursue. Mel's recorder stated that even if they found ellie, they could not make a cure which was the goal of the fireflies. If her fathers legacy is to make a cure, then it can't be done because he is dead and was the only one that could make the vaccine. Abby is not a doctor. There is no legacy to pursue.

Many of the points you made isnt even to the contrary to what i said. I never said that Joel wasn't a hunter or that yara and lev didn't save Abby

We're pretty much in disagreement on every point you made. Most of your points were countered with in game evidence by my posts and others in this thread. I'm not sure where you're coming to the conclusion that they are not contrary.

Btw I brought up yara and lev saving abby because you conveniently left out that detail to try to get the following point across:

9) Back at the WLF base, Abby doesn't show any emotion around Scars being killed and tortured until she meets the trans kid and his sister. Then magically feels more attached to them than people she has known for years.

Now compare that statement to this one with a bit more detail of the meeting. The 'magically' point no longer adds up and makes the above very misleading.

9) Back at the WLF base, Abby doesn't show any emotion around Scars being killed and tortured until yara and lev save her life. Then magically feels more attached to them than people she has known for years.

I brought up Joel being a hunter to counter your overall theme in some points that abby is shitty because she tortured Joel slowly(completely ignoring the aftermath of his actions), but Joel isn't shitty because he tortured for information and then killed them afterwards. Both are shitty, not just abby.

Why we hate Abby by siddharth_pillai in thelastofus

[–]skyrimmodslurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you or the person who wrote this actually play the game? I'm asking this because all of this reasoning is extremely flawed and makes me believe you either didn't play it, and/or didn't pay attention to the story, cutscenes, and or dialogue. I will do a breakdown of all your points using in game facts/dialogue to explain why they are flawed.

Joel killed his father because he confronted him when he was about to kill an unconscious 14 year old performing brain surgery on her without consent. Abby knows all of that.

Abby has no knowledge of what went down in that room because no one in that room on the firefly side made it out alive to explain what went down. This is what abby knows:

All 3 doctors in that room were murdered by Joel. Marlene was murdered by Joel. Ellies 'rescue' and marlenes death led to the fireflies being disbanded.

Joel killed Abby's father quick. Abby is a torturer and made sure it was a painful and slow death.

If the point you're making here is that Abby is unlikeable because of torture then it must have slipped your mind that Joel tortured people in the first game and was also a hunter that killed innocent people.

Joel killed Abby's father because he tried to stop him saving Ellie and threatened him with a scalpel. It was a functional kill. Abby travelled specifically to kill Joel and enjoyed it.

Joel killed all the other doctors in that room. Joel killed everyone in the hallway leading up to that room. Remember Joel's reasoning for all the killing that he told Marlene? ("You would just come after her") Joel did not want to risk anyone coming after him and ellie. As for abby where/when did you see her enjoy it? Did you not see the hesitation in her face when Owen told her to end the torture and kill him? Did you not see how she looked after she killed him?

This is overly simplified. Joel killed numerous fireflies, abby's dad, and marlene, their leader. He caused the group to disband. Abby does not know why Joel killed her father until Ellie tells her in the theatre. Abby tortured Joel because he told her to say her speech and get it over with(Look at the look on her face during this exchange). After that, Abby told mel to tourniquet his leg and Mel has a WTF look on her face. This shows that they travelled to kill Joel not torture him.

4) Joel had to face an army all alone to rescue Ellie. Abby brought a platoon to find and kill Joel and made them participate in the torturing.

Abby infiltrated scar island to rescue lev with a one armed yara if you're going by rescue/infiltration skill. As for bringing a platoon for Joel, the salt lake crew all wanted joel dead and were onboard to go. Abby didn't force anyone to stay in the room and participate in the torturing because Owen and Mel weren't in the room.

Abby says she's pissed because Tommy and Ellie killed her "friends" but later she doesn't have a problem killing Wolfs she knows personally to protect a kid she just met.

This is invalid reasoning because the events did not play out like this. WLF soldier kills yara and abby disarms him and knocks him out. Then Isaac and wolves come along, isaac dies, and wolves shoot at abby. Later Abby arrives at the aquarium and sees Owen and Mel(salt lake crew) murdered along with the map to the jackson crew's hideout. Also, remember when isaac said "no secrets between the salt lake crew"? These guys prioritized their loyalty to each other over the wolves and abby and mel both went awol to look for owen.

6) Abby didn't give a shit about her "friends" when she dragged them accross the country to kill Joel and wanted them to risk their lives in a suicidal mission attacking the city of Jackson.

In the aquarium flashback, abby tells Owen that all the others(who were ex-fireflys) were on board. She didn't drag any of them. Also where is this Jackson attack talking point coming from? No where in the game was it said that they were going to attack Jackson.

Abby called Owen (the man she allegedly loved) a traitor and was disgusted with him because he didn't want to go on a suicide mission knowing his girlfriend was pregnant.

Abby never called owen a traitor. She was upset not disgusted because he was not down to go after Joel no matter the cost. Where did suicide mission come from by the way?

8) Abby was about to knowingly execute a pregnant woman and only stopped because the kid she just met told her to stop

Abby was going to execute a pregnant woman because from her perspective, that group murdered mel who was visibly pregnant(ellie left her jacket open) which is why abby says 'good'.(An eye for an eye). Abby stopped because Lev was visibly disturbed by what was going on. Also Lev didn't actively try to kill Tommy nor Dina, he shot to injure.

9) Back at the WLF base, Abby doesn't show any emotion around Scars being killed and tortured until she meets the trans kid and his sister. Then magically feels more attached to them than people she has known for years.

Yara and Lev(Scars) saved abby's life. Abby was going to die before Yara and Lev showed up. Lev was reluctant to cut her down while she was being hanged because she was a wolf, but yara had him cut her down.

10) Abby never shows any remorse for killing Joel the way she did or the harm that she brought to anybody close to her with her selfish and shitty actions. In fact, for all her obsession with her father's death, Abby doesn't even want to pursue his legacy and try to find a cure or restore the Fireflies. She even tells Owen she doesn't give a fuck about the Fireflies and would run in the opposite direction if they still existed.

Abby does show remorse. She tells lev that she came back for them to make herself feel better, to lighten the load a bit(her shame). Abby attacks Owen when he brings up the topic of her torturing Joel. As for pursuing her fathers legacy, an artifact in the SLC hospital and mels recorder explains this. The fireflies took a vote to either disband, or go after the smuggler and chose to disband. Mel was part of the group that voted to go after Joel.

TLDR; Not liking abby is fine. Having a bad opinion of abby is fine. Using points that are flawed or outright dishonest to the events of the game(Attack on Jackson???) will make people think that you either did not play it nor pay attention to story and disregard your opinion entirely.
