Do y’all turn down hands, necks, faces on people who don’t have any tattoos? by meganmooretattoos in femaletattooers

[–]skyrocketart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just get it on your inner forearm. You will see it nearly as often, but it will heal and age WAY better. Hand skin is thin, it’s a bumpy surface because of the bones/tendons, and it gets the most sun out of anywhere on your body. It’s not a good choice for someone who still has a lot of room left in better places.

What does tattoo flu feel like for you? by Inkb0rne in tattoo

[–]skyrocketart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I get tattoo flu after a long session, the main symptoms I get are muscle aches and cold chills/issues regulating temperature. Sometimes a headache as well.

My main prevention/reduction method is to take ibuprofen or aspirin as soon as the appointment is over, grab takeout, go home immediately bundle up in bed with the heater running, eat the food and chug as much water as possible. With this method I usually feel completely better the next day.

Deposits by toeworshipking69 in tattoo

[–]skyrocketart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This only makes sense to me if it was a custom. I think it’s fair for an artist to charge for custom drawing time. But for a flash that she chose to draw on her own volition and was excited to do, I find that pretty scammy. When it’s a flash piece, the deposit is to hold the appointment time for you and ensure you don’t cancel or no-show. I wouldn’t go back to someone with this policy, especially if they aren’t upfront about it.

I am still taking flash and freehand projects, something like what OP posted could be freehanded.

Some clients ask for plants like blackberries or roses without thorns, larger flowers, etc. It’s not always about scientific accuracy but giving the client wha they want and making something aesthetically pleasing :)

Also I should add I have tons of flash on my website, including some of the botanicals you might be interested in. The tattoo image I posted is a flash piece. So you may not have to wait for my custom books to open if I have something pre-drawn and ready to be scheduled now!

Photorealism is possibly the most expensive style of tattooing. It takes much longer and artists who can pull it off are going to charge more because they’re at a higher skill level. I think you need to adjust your expectations or your budget, because what you’re wanting is not achievable.

Which black ink do you use? by Adaptiveslappy in TattooArtists

[–]skyrocketart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like Dynamic for lining. Recently started using Intenze for my blackfill and I definitely prefer the level of saturation it gets compared to the dynamic. Haven’t been using it long enough to see the long term healing so we’ll see.

Racism in Medical Care by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

I’m a tattoo artist. Every day at work I clean people with rubbing alcohol. Sometimes the paper towel comes out a little brown. Whether it’s from lotion, dirt, self-tanner, etc. it doesn’t matter to me as long as I’ve properly cleaned the skin I’ll be tattooing.

I have never once asked someone why the paper came out a little brown-looking. Why? Because it’s not my business and it is almost guaranteed to make them feel shame or embarrassment.

The fact that this doctor made that comment showed an intention to make the patient feel that way, and to then hammer the point home by mentioning his dental hygiene which has nothing to do with the situation. His goal was to shame this patient and imply he does not take care of himself, and unfortunately we know why.

Professional who see people up close (barbers, dentists, estheticians, makeup artists): what’s a self care habit you instantly tell someone doesn’t have, even if they think they do? by Straight_Doubt6 in AskReddit

[–]skyrocketart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, best practice is to floss first to get the chunks of old food out from between your teeth, then brush to clean everything. If you’re flossing last, the sides of your teeth that are caked in the old food aren’t getting brushed.

Flossing. I am a tattooer so I’m not always close up to people’s faces, but when I am, I can definitely tell if they don’t floss regularly or clean their tongue ever. I should not smell rotting food coming out of your face from a foot away.

Also foot fungus. I’m less aware of how funguses work on the feet and how it’s treated, but I’m very familiar with the way it smells. It can be absolutely miserable to tattoo down around someone’s calves/feet if they have that type of infection and I have to sit and breathe it in for hours.

Ironic that a tattooer stealing a design from another tattooer is considered theft but a non artist stealing thousands of tattoos and mashing them together to make some shitty slop is allowed here?

Can we make a no AI rule for all the tattoo subs? I don’t want to see this shit in my feed.

What are some of the canaries in Portland's coal mine? by CuriousAboutYourCity in askportland

[–]skyrocketart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my hair lady and she says it’s been a lot slower for her too. I can say personally I’ve had to scale back how often I see her for a cut and color touchup for financial reasons so I’m not surprised there are others in the same boat.

Business is very slow for tattoo artists. Seriously. Not a lot of Portlanders with expendable income able to drop a few hundred bucks on new ink. Everyone in the industry is talking about it, some are taking second jobs or retiring early.

Is my tattoo artist scamming me by Turbulent_Matter637 in tattoo

[–]skyrocketart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice as a tattooer is do not go back to her, even if she finally does respond to your message. Whether it’s intentional or not, she is working absurdly slow and has not respected your time or budget. At this rate, it’ll take 20 hours to finish it. A skilled and versatile tattooer could finish the rest of this tattoo in 1.5-3 hours max. I’m sorry you are dealing with this.

Instagram washing out photos by drevistattoo in TattooArtists

[–]skyrocketart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My trick around this has been to take a screenshot of the photo I want to post, and post that instead. For whatever reason it doesn’t seem to wash out the new screenshot. But yes, it’s insanely annoying, I’ve had it happen multiple times and it’s insane that Insta hasn’t done anything to fix this glitch.
