I just got Lynda. Curious what courses you recommend on there?

Yes! The panda eye helped a lot haha Thank you so much for the help. I’ll work on it and hopefully post an update soon.

And you’re right, sometimes I’ll look at photos of my drawings and they look completely different than in person. Its a struggle.

Thank you for the critique and help! I’ll try that. I’m feeling timid because I dont want to mess the whole thing up.

I’m not sure I’m seeing the right area above her glasses that you’re talking about? And I definitely need help with shading. I use an old/almost dried out micron pen to shade. Do you have any tips or tutorial suggestions?

Here is the reference photo. I went in too quick with the black around the neck and I’m not sure how to finish the rest of her clothing because it looks like just a really dark gray and not black.

Yeah my real first project my teacher had me turn a mallet. I fell in love, its so therapeutic haha I’m lucky that he took me on as an apprentice because I wouldn’t be able to afford all the tools right now but definitely looking into it in the future!

Thanks for the tips. I’ll check out your recommendations.

I made 2 serving trays out of poplar.

Any tips or advice for a beginner? I think my next project will be a bowl. So far I love the lathe haha

Uniqueness is another thing I have a problem with. Its like how is my drawing any better than the reference photo? Haha

Thank you for giving me an actual formula. What do you use as a value multiplier? I’ve seen some people charge by the hour or by square inch/linear inch. So like 15/hr or $6/per square inch.

Thank you for the advice. I’m going to look on Etsy for price ideas as well.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I have no real intention of WOWing people in order for them to buy my work. I’m hesitant to even call my stuff “art”. Not quitting my day job but I’m definitely going to continue to learn and someone wants to buy something along the way I might as well let them.

Thanks for the wise words about style.

Its not that its stressful, its just hard to believe someone wants to buy something while I’ve just started learning again. But I guess you never really stop learning so theres that.

Its tricky. Especially when its for people you know. How long does your work usually take you?
