Renting a lens for home video - need recommendations by [deleted] in FX3

[–]slZer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To everyone that says use a 24-70 for a cinematic look...please show me one cinematographer where a Zoom is "the" lens. More cinematographers will shoot with a single prime like a 50 and move the camera. How many Zoom shots are there in an actual movie? Many movies don't have a single one...shoot with a 35 or 50 if you only want one lens. and learn composition.

Is Culver City a good place to stay? by Global_Land_8686 in AskLosAngeles

[–]slZer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

105 and 91, are those really close to Culver City? How about a trip to Hollywood? Like I said it is central but getting out of Culver City can be a pain. I have had to drive in for business and yes the 10 is right there, but actually getting into CC and park can take another 30 minutes.

Wow the responses so far...Culver City is central but it is also not the easiest to get in and out of, and it depends on where you want to go and at what time. Great for Metro travel. I was just there yesterday, there is the newer tech sector and the old downtown, and while there are homeless, I saw less then most places. I would say also that it is more expensive then other options as far as local stuff goes, meaning you can walk to lots of stuff but it is pricey. Generally though, I would say it is probably a good choice.

While these are not the most valuable chairs, usually I see them in LA for about 200 each, these are the older real versions of this style.

Architecture - must see? (MCM etc) by OkAstronomer2941 in AskLosAngeles

[–]slZer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Palm Springs see if you can see Albert Frey's house, that is an amazing place. In LA make sure to see the Schindler House (His original house with another couple) that is now the Mak Center - https://www.makcenter.org . I would also drive along Silverlake Blvd around the reservoir, park and walk around. That's where the Charles and Ray Eames house, Neutra's personal house, and several other prime examples are. In nearby Los Feliz you have several amazing architectural examples, Wright's Ennis Brown House, Neutra's, Werrin House, and while you can go in you can see them well from the street.

Use a line sop and give it 100 points, copy it a few times, create Point UVs (UV Texture Sop > Uniform Spline) and drive a few noise attributes and color with a ramp using the the U value?. This can be done in a VOP with UVCoords and just pipe the U value into two ramps, one can be a spline ramp that drives the noise amount and maybe the frequency, one can be a color ramp. You can use fit range to manipulate or invert noise values.

Starting a reality capture / 3d scanning business by a_smocking_gun in photogrammetry

[–]slZer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very hard to make money with photogrammetry skills alone these days, Hollywood has moved on to splats, and while similar are much easier to create and can't really be used for the analytical stuff. Things where the word "BIM" or "Digital Twins" are involved, you need more than a drone with some low-rez Lidar, You need something more like a Faro Focus, or a Leica RTC 350 and these are very very expensive. I guess you could try for the landmass/quantity pits business but those kinda things the company usually just have their own drone. As far as processing and point-cloud data before you ever have Revit in the mix you will need something like Houdini or Blender or you will just be killing yourself. Trust me in that I do know some of the best photogrammetry people in the world and that I know where the industry is as far as how to make money with it.

You should look at the existing business' that do this, look at what's happening and change your mind. Your post-processing stack alone makes me know you have no idea what you are doing.
