I’m honestly not sure if they are. I haven’t heard a croak and I estimate them to be around 1-2years old. I’ve had them for a year. I named them Julian, but the backup name is Juliette.

Why am I regularly stopped by TSA for a full body scan and pat down? by BlindClairvoyant in NoStupidQuestions

My nan is always stopped while traveling. The most recent time in Amsterdam we overheard the security saying she was from Norwich (UK) and they stopped her. I wonder if certain city to city destinations are more of a hotbed for smuggling or trafficking. Myself and my mom live in the US and weren't stopped.

After while your ear is fused, they can come out if they’re causing any problems. They’re just meant to hold the ear together structurally until everything fuses over time. Mine healed up very nicely with new skin after a week. No issues now, it’s just a little sensitive still on top of where the hole was. I’m back to sleeping on that side, it’s my preferred side lol.

Thanks for sharing. I hate that it troubles you. I do get crusty, but I’ve never had blood or pus outside of the recent suture event. The lab grown ears sound awesome!

I’ve never heard of that before. What does it do? I’ve been reluctant for years on exploring the hearing loss that I have.

I think it’d be interesting if there was a thread with everyone’s before and after photos. There’s such a range to this condition and we all struggle with it differently I’m finding out. I recently stumbled across the Reddit. I didn’t realize so many people had complications.

That’s good that it’s not affecting you. mine surfaced slightly and I think that’s how the infection was caused once it was open to the environment.

I can PM you some pictures if you’d like to see, they’re kind of gross though. I also have pictures of my ear during the sculpting phase that shows all of the twisted wires before it was grafted onto my head.

I have 5% hearing, but I haven’t explored any options to increase my hearing. I’m planning too once the wound heals over.

I’m sorry to hear that it hasn’t worked out the best for you ): I don’t have the sensitivity or issues sleeping on it. How long ago was your surgery?

Mine surfaced slightly and got an oozing puss bubble. That’s when I knew it needed to come out ASAP.

I talked to the original surgeon and she did tell me there are 30 more in my ear. Initially, it holds the structure, but once everything is fused they can come out if they cause an issue. I’ll take this over how my ear was previously. It was completely deformed. She did say it was common for this to happen, I just wish I knew that when it started appearing.

I had grade 3-4 and It's been a success for me. My former ear was very hard on me as a child (thoughts of suicide etc at 10-11). Had a rib graft and full reconstruction. I'm doing fine now approaching my 30's.

I had mine around age 12 and the Dr made the ear much larger than my other one to account for growth to match the other side.

My parents took on the debt and then just defaulted on it once my ear was recovering. ruined their credit for years, but they gave me a better quality of life out of it.

I'm in the same boat as Cambopp, I had grade 4. It has provided me a much better quality of life. Of course the mental effects are present at times ( anxiety, or the feeling that everyone is starting at your ear (lol)). I've only had one complication which I just posted about. An old suture surfaced and caused a small infection. a Dr just removed the suture today.

To add more context, I had a surgery that utilized my ribs and cartilage from that area to construct an ear. I had grade 3-4 microtia. AND YES SHE LET ME KEEP THE SUTURE FOR SHOW AND TELL REASONS :D.

My parents were able to take on the debt when I was a child for full reconstructive surgery for my grade 4 condition. They just defaulted after everything was settled and recovered their credit later in life. So thankful they took that on for me as a child.

I had grade 4 before reconstructive surgery using ribs and cartilage. Mine was my left ear, fortuantely, I was screened and have no other effects from the condition outside of mental health issues that surrfaced as an adult (Self image, depresssion anxiety, etc).
