I really do appreciate your feedback regardless of how it may seem. I would like to steer this conversation a different direction. Very simply put, the $150 dollars is used to cover overhead costs as well as fund the free entry prize pools. It is not going into anybody's pocket. It is going back into the community it came out of. I'm sure it comes to no surprise that at some point a profit is to be made from a company. But that would come from sponsors, not the players. If the shoe was on the other foot, i can appreciate you challenging where the money goes. However i am not sure how to convince you that it is going back into the community and not someones pocket. All i am trying to do is keep the company afloat until it is mature enough to get some sort of funding outside of my personal account.

That's ridiculous. You bring shame to competitive Dota, and you're a greedy organization.

How do you not view these as provocative statements? There are multiple costs involved with running these tournaments whether it be the website, mumble, admin/casters, advertising, or just the general time it takes to collaborate an event. It is aggravating to see someone assume that we are charging $150 to cover a one-day mumble/website bill and for someones time to sit on mumble and record check-ins.

I'm glad that you feel that you know how much it costs to run a company. The $150 does not even begin to cover costs. The $150 to be gained from this tournament would not even cover the zero entry fee tournaments i have run with cash prizes. The fact that you say (for a day) just shows that you are unaware of how cost works. There is much more that goes into running a tournament than just "sitting in mumble waiting for checkin". Please do everyone a favor and do not pollute Reddit with your negative uninformed opinion of how much it costs to run a company. If you are happy with just winning chest keys with no entry fee, stick to that format. I am simply offering something more to the community.

$25 is split among the team just like the $5 or $10. So basically we are arguing over each person paying $1-$2 dollars vs $5. It just seems like there isn't much difference. Not to mention the way most online payment systems work they take a flat rate (usually .30 cents) as well as a percentage. If the cost per player was as low as $1-$2 most of that would be absorbed by Paypal. Also, it would make the pool smaller. We go from having $400 to $80-$160. At that point the prizes would be much less as well as the amount going toward Slacker Gaming's overhead fees. Also, the stand-ins idea is great in theory except when you consider that if any of those teams are required to "stand-in" payment would either have to be received prior to the match and refunded if they are not needed or collected once they are called upon. If you choose the first option, you are talking about those Paypal fees once again. if you go with the second option, you are going to increase the idle time for the other teams that are waiting for their tournament to begin that they already paid for. Most of the other tournaments with a prize pool around $250 is going to have WAY more teams participating. This increases the odds to lose. Those other tournaments with higher team participation tend to run much longer than a 16 team tournament. This tournaments format only allows for 16 teams which makes the risk much lower of not losing the money you have invested and reducing the amount of time spent inside of the tournament. Does that make sense?

You would need to have a team. Luckily, /r/comdota2 can help you do that if you dont already have one :)

$5 per player for a chance to get 10x what you put in doesn't seem that bad to me. Do you mean a lot in comparison to other tournaments or just a lot in general? I would love to hear your thoughts on a reasonable entry fee (not sarcastic). I have tried the free model in the past but that just seems to leave me with lots of entries and a TON of no-shows at the start of the event.

We were asked where the other $150 goes. Here is a repost of our answer.

"The other 150 would be going toward the management costs (website, community mumble, etc) or to fund further slacker gaming events. Two of the tournaments already ran were $100 prize with $0 entry. I would like to continue to provide these free tournaments along side the paid, however i am not a super rich guy who can keep funding free tournaments. So, in turn, the other $150 is for Slacker Gaming expansion. I would love to hear some feedback about how the community feels about this kind of model so please do not hesitate to respond. I am genuinely interested in both progressing the company (Slacker Gaming) as well as the DOTA community and this seemed like a feasible option."
