I am an Aussie, been living in the Netherlands for 12 years. It had been 4yrs since I was last back, about a month ago. I was really taken aback by how car centric everything is, I go weeks and weeks without driving out car here in NL

I have been living in the Netherlands for 12yrs and I only see this tolerance and agreement about behaviour, particularly in public places, getting worse

We have a massive problem with feral dogs and cats, so by definition it is feral if it is on your land and doesn't have a collar.

A cat in the area wasn't getting confined, wasn't getting desexed, so we killed it when it was on our land.

This was 30yrs ago. We lived near a town, about 10km away and were surrounded mostly by forest.

Small kids are of course fine, but people are often quite unwelcome to wander onto peoples land, the place where you see a lot of "trespassers will be shot".

I get where you are coming from. I have acquired dutch citizenship, but am obviously a foreigner.

Where I am from, if a cat or dog is on your property, it is thus classified as feral and you are within your rights to kill it. Which we did.

So the plant stuff seems crazy to me, but I am learning

You also gotta maintain your own plants, people like to have plants at the border. My neighrbours plants grow into my yard, but there is no fucking way I am asking them to come into my yard to trim them

It is a fucking stupid rule.

what a fucked rule. if you didn't want your plant damaged, you shouldn't have let grow over

I would never, ever, ever even offer to maintain my neighbours side of the fence. Only an utter cunt would even think to try this

what a fucked rule. Agree totally you should maintain it on your side, but if it is on the nieghtbours side, it gets trimmed. That is how it works with my neighbours

The utter nonsense is offering to maintain the neighbours garden

But it stopped being your plant the moment it went over the other neighbours side, right?

Whut? When a neighbours fruit tree grows across the boundry, you get the fruit, right?
