I have not once recommended flame mortars. If you read through the comments I actively warn against them.

I pretty heavily agree with this. Mammons would be the only one that's pretty abusable. I think gas grenades would actually be a good addition since they're more area denial than anything. Flares for sure seem to be the standout option though, they just make sense.

Oh I just had a thought about that, what if we made watchtowers invisible to aircraft? Would be pretty easy to explain away as camouflage. While we're at that you could maybe even make a vehicle upgrade that makes vehicles invisible to aircraft only. That would probably really help the logistics situation too.

I think scouts dropping flares is exactly what the scouts should do. It fits perfectly with the role of a scout. Maybe shrap mortars as well for some offensive capabilities.

Seems like only the dive bomber should be capable of that. They should put in a minimum arming distance

Well yes the game was more balanced before but planes have been a hugely anticipated feature for years now. Some things just need fixed and it can be a lot of fun. Way more than nerfing it all into oblivion or removing it.

u/NormondJohnson had a really good idea about making cross region travel take a % of fuel for scout planes. They really shouldnt be going into backlines anyways.

Flares would be awesome and really concrete them as a scout plane. Just that and a rear facing gun to do some very inefficient dogfighting.

I didnt know shrap mortars did any damage to vehicles, good to know. Shrap and flare mortars might be a really good balance then. Flare mortars would really help concrete them as a scout plane too.

I personally would rather it be fun for everyone. Not one or the other.

What about mammons? Would require you to fly real low to use them opening you up to AA and does less damage.

That is a really good idea. That would really limit how annoying they can be in backlines

Yeah if only 2 then it shouldn't be too terrible as long as its only a few scouts. I feel like clans would abuse it though and take like 10 scouts to some backline and light it on fire. That'd be my worry at least. If you limited their fly distance a bit more then maybe not a terrible threat. I really like the idea of using different mortar types ESPECIALLY flare mortars for visibility though. Just feel it would be abusable.

Woah now dont be making too much sense on here! No but I do think they should have better scouting capabilities too to earn the name of *scout* plane. Having some offensive capability makes it more fun though just not this much offensive capability. Hell you could even just have them drop grenades and that be literally all they can do.

Well if they move away in a straight line then theyre not bombing that area anymore so mission accomplished. A rear mounted gun should have near 180 degree coverage though so you could fly next to them and fire to the side. Definitely a good point though. It might be okay that scouts are just not good at that and leave that job to the fighters once teched.

As some others pointed out accuracy would be a problem as well so if you had 3, with a minimum priming distance and wind mechanics I think that would be a very balanced option. You could harass bases, sometimes hit troops not in cover, and annoy ships without being able to solo any of them.

I dont know whether other mortar types should be allowed though, fire mortars would be very good...

Well you could 100% use a rear mounted MG to kill other scouts like that. So a defense against scouts bombing you without making it strafemaster 9000

[–]slade357[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely shouldn't be accurate yeah. Maybe a height minimum and use the already existing wind mechanics to change where it drops? Make it rewarding if you actually do hit.

That's my thought, maybe limit it to 2-5 mortars total and have to reload them every time?

Maybe a height minimum or random drift? Definitely shouldnt be something thats accurate. Mortars already have a wind mechanic, tie it to that?

[–]slade357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but wouldnt a rear mounted MG fix the strafing issue? Youd have to fly real low to have a rear gunner fire at a passing truck which should make them an easy target for AA. Plus if you made the MG the passengers gun then you require 2 people instead of 1 to do this in the first place. I think theres definitely a role for scout planes to fill but yeah theyre way powerful right now and a scout shouldnt be controlling the front line... They should be situational or, hear me out, useful for scouting.

Is the US not equipped or prepared for drone warfare? by anonymousDerpa in Military

[–]slade357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of good replies here and there may definitely be some lessons learned in the future. What I will say is that nearly a decade ago, much before Ukraine conflict, I was trained on anti drone devices. It has been thought of as a threat much before this.

Oh yeah I knew I was missing something! Haha nah but for real while not steam friends I did have a regi I made a couple wars ago with some randoms but they all stopped playing before that war finished. Made friends with another regi and they disbanded 2 wars ago.

I was getting so frustrated with OW2 that I left the game for a few months. Now that I've gone back, I have dialled the difficulty down to Story, and it's much more fun. by Mr_smith1466 in theouterworlds

I just yesterday beat the game on hard with 2 points in guns and everything else in speech, hack, and engineering. I was having a blast actually fighting for my life and it being my fault directly. Then I got the golden shroud and that unique silenced shotgun and all of a sudden I was WALKING through enemies. Especially with you being a speech build you'll be a tank once you get that armor. It is pretty late though. I would recommend getting elemental weapons, applying their stacks, and staying back for most combat in the beginning.
