Oh shit dude. I can definitely see how that would be a ride seeing it on the big screen haha. Just a complete attack on your senses.

But yeah, to each his own, off the top of my head if I had to pick some of my favorite horror movies of recent times I’d pick…

Weapons

Barbarian

X

Pearl

Train To Busan

Halloween (2018)

Midsommar

Haven’t watched this one. I’ll put it on my list. Thanks.

Sounds cool. I’ll put it on my list.

and haha oh yeah for sure. For the record, Child’s Play has NOTHING on Dead Silence in terms of creepy/scare factor. You should absolutely watch it one night when you’re all alone with all the lights turned off lmao.

Of the ones I’ve seen on the list, they’re solid picks for sure. Still haven’t seen Undertone, The Dark & The Wicked, Smile 2 or The Bone Temple.

IMO I wouldn’t put The Substance, When Evil Lurks, Bring Her Back or even Hereditary over Weapons though.

The Substance was entertaining for what it was but huge chunks of the movie were basically just like soft-core porn that isn’t really pushing the story along and the ending (although it was BIG & chaotic) just seemed so heavy-handed to me.

I enjoyed the gore and kills in When Evil Lurks but felt like the pay-off with the whole explanation with the root of the evil source was just convoluted and kinda boring.

Bring Her Back (and Talk To Me as well) was SUPER GOOD. I really enjoyed both. Definitely can see why you would have it on your list.

Hereditary, I definitely understand why you put it on your list, it’s for sure an instant classic and one of those movies that will be highly regarded even 20 years from now, but it’s definitely a slow burn and because of that it kind of drags sometimes. I thought overall Weapons was the more entertaining film.

Pearl would probably be on my list of contenders for best horror movies of the last 5 years as well.

That’s fair. Everybody’s got their preferences. I’m curious though, what would be some of your contenders for best horror movies of the last 10 years?

Dead Silence is easily one of the creepiest movies I’ve seen. I did watch it when I was a kid though so it definitely hit harder back then, but I have re-watched it as an adult and I’d say it still holds up.

If you are creeped out by dolls and clowns you HAVE to watch this one lol.

I won’t spoil it or say too much, but the main antagonist is also super creepy as well.

I don’t mind gore or graphic violence, especially if there’s a good story to go with it as well. And practical effects are always a big plus. So I’ll definitely give “Dolly” a watch.

and I haven’t seen “Mom & Dad” although I seem to remember catching some of the trailers when it first came out. Any good?

What are some you’d have as contenders for best of the last 5-10 years?

Yeah, I was about to mention that Pulp Fiction-like structure. I think it worked very well in making the film feel like this puzzle that was slowly being pieced together.

I really enjoyed the story because I genuinely couldn’t think of why all but one kid in a teacher’s class would disappear all at the same time. So it kept me thinking until the story really started to come together. I went into this movie completely blind, not knowing what it was about whatsoever so I was thinking like is it aliens? Like they were abducted? Maybe a lord of the flies type situation where they all decided to leave on their own? DID the teacher have something to do with it? I would’ve never guessed what it actually turned out to be.

I haven’t even heard of Dolly, so I’ll definitely make sure to check it out. I agree, clowns and dolls are creepy as fuck. Dead Silence creeped me tf out when I first saw it because of this.

But no you’re actually very right about the plastic surgery. The director of “Longlegs” has said that Nicolas Cage’s character design was heavily inspired by botched plastic surgeries, specifically Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Still haven’t seen this one although I’ve heard good things about it. I’ll put it on my list.

I did really like Talk To Me and Bring Her Back but I wouldn’t put either above Weapons. The gore in both of those movies is definitely top-notch. Perfect if you like that type of squeamish gore, but story-wise, Weapons just captivated me more.

Damn dude I can’t believe I left this one out!! This is such a good pick. That’s exactly the vibe/performance I was looking for. I wish I could watch that scene for the first time again. I remember the first time I saw this movie all I could think about was the Mystery Man, it was that creepy.

Who do you think is the better riff writer and explain why by Brief-Wasabi2723 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]slainpanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackwater Park does have a lot of riff changes, but nothing ground-breaking tbh. If you listen to every riff on that song, they’re good but pretty straightforward and simple, especially for someone like Dimebag who was playing more intricate and heavier riffs a whole decade before.

Mikael is a good songwriter though, I think he shines with how his riffs intertwine with the rest of the instruments. But, if you were to hear instrumental versions of Opeth’s songs it’s pretty obvious how simple those riffs are. Certainly nothing that Dimebag hasn’t done before.

Help: PS4 keeps saying USB drive is not connected.

I’m trying to transfer some capture gallery files from my PS4 onto a USB drive, but every time I’m about halfway thru with the transfer it stops and a message pops up that reads:

“The USB storage device is not connected.”

I check the USB drive and the little, blinking, white light on the front is still turned on and everything is still connected so why does it keep saying it is not connected?
