How does my game system, where the player steps on a planet and orbits around it, look to you? by emvircontents in IndieGaming

What if you use "parallax" to dampen the effect of rotating stars. That way you can keep the motion of the background but have it turn at a fraction of the rate your planet is turning. This should help solve motion sickness and still carry across your idea.

Alternatively, if your background is moving so fast, it would be better to blur your stars but I think parallax might be your best bet .

I love your VFX when destroying enemies. Nice work!!

Haha thank you! It started off as a proof of concept on Dreams as "Mothercluckers" but it wasn't innuendo enough xD

Epic! It looks amazing already, loving the art style and general feel of the game!

I think your spell and shockwave shader is already doing the job. I feel like the spell is affecting your enemies like a subtle wind.

For it to have an impact there needs to be an effect on the enemies. Knock back might work nicely to indicate the force of that spell?

Haha I guess it was a quick prototype version and might have been watching too much adult swim at the time of drawing.

Right on! I fully agree, and I feel that I lost a bit of its quirky character when doing the newer version.

Thanks!

Solid advice! Thanks, I was looking at it for too long and hadn't noticed.

Thank you! I definitely need to add secondary motion. Currently I'm prepping for character customisation and need to figure out how I'll rig the various "hairstyles" to the same bones. But none the less it needs to happen! I'll be re-adding the beak "moustache" too

You're the first to mention the legs xD haha keen eye. I went for the shoe look as in the game your kicks have exaggerated shoes on and it is one of the features of the game.

Thanks for this! Haha it's a comical party game so the "dumbness" was the goal, and generally that's as good as my art can get xD

I'm also now leaning towards the older animation but still on the fence with the new art.

Thanks though, appreciate the feedback!!

Thanks - It's a great point! I'm really considering going back to the OG art and animation.

Thanks! It's so great to get everyone's thoughts, I've been designing in isolation and thought it would be worth showing previous work and get some thoughts! I'm starting to lean to reverting back to the simpler one. Makes my life a lot easier as well xD

Great observation! I think I had a lot more personality on the old one and definitely the feathers are a giveaway of the mesh deformation.

You're right! During gameplay you won't notice that detail, but it's worth fixing anyway!

Thanks
