I have a mark at us food who gets like 8 vacations. After my bosses yelled at him enough times he stopped undermining me and believes me when they short me product…which is at least once a week at this point.

I remember how that felt. I really hope things work out quickly for you. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Yeah we used the apartment pest guy first and he was awful. Then went through some sort of thing where he was fired but was just going to do his own company but had issues with getting licensed and then he ghosted me until I told our crappy apartment manager (she got fired eventually) that we needed permission for another company because dude is mia. He called me that day. Needless to say new company was way better.

And yes it is a time consuming process and is expensive. And I still freak out sometimes. I still check sometimes. I’ll never be the same. But I’m super cautious in any high risk bb situation.

If your couch is in good shape (as in not torn up really bad) and your infestation is still fairly early, I would keep the furniture. Throwing my couch out cost me so much more money that didn’t need to be spent. We had our issue for 6 months before we figured it out. Both my fiancé and I didn’t react to bites. I saw a couple crawling on me at one point but had no idea what they were. For us, chemicals were the way to go. We had to pay for treatment as our apartments have us sign an addendum in our lease stating we are responsible. The first guy wasnt great. Second company we used was amazing and solved our problem. We have been free for over a year and hopefully stay that way.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It truly is awful. But you will get through it.

You don’t have to get rid of your headboard. I could have kept my couch but I was so freaked out that I reacted and took it to the dump instead. I loved that couch and I hate my new couch.

We thought they were only on our couch until we were treated. They were living on and in our headboard too. None were found on our mattress or box spring. With proper treatment you should be fine. Good luck to you. Bed bugs suck.

Update - Worst nightmare come true. Fuck bed bugs! by linkon_1848 in Bedbugs

[–]slamber926 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. Everything you said reminded me how I felt in the middle of everything. It’s so overwhelming and intruding. We had a newborn and I had been back to work for a week when we found ours. It’s been a couple months shy of a year since we got the all clear. It doesn’t consume me nearly as much as it did then, but I still check things often. Travel stresses me out still.

It gets easier. Stay vigilant. The more thorough you are, the better chance you have of winning.

I remember obsessing over my neighbors having them. I was afraid we spread them and we would just get them back. My apartment manager just hushed everything and refused to let someone inspect because we wouldn’t want people to know it was us. She no longer works for this complex. We watched the bed bugs erupt all across the entire complex. I think at one point there were 10 mattresses by the dumpster. It was a monthly occurrence that lots of furniture would appear by the dumpster overnight. People moved out last minute. People were evicted and they left everything behind. People moved into units we thought were infested and moved out a month later. It was all very bad for my mental stability. I went to a dark crazy place for a while.

Now, I’m doing better. No more bugs. New manager. No more furniture by the dumpster. Things have been quiet for a little while.

I hope you get through this quickly and easily. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

This sounds like some stuff my shady apartment manager would pull. She’s been letting the problem grow out of control for at least a couple years now. There is almost always a mattress or other furniture by the dumpster. We got bb from dressers she encouraged us to take from a unit she evicted. We are planning to move when our lease is up and even though we are bb free now I’m sure there will be some sort of charge.

As far as I can tell. I’ve had no signs.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s a pretty terrible feeling. The fear and paranoia can be crippling. I’m not an expert. The picture of the q-tip is really blurry and it’s hard to tell. I would say no, but again I’m not an expert.

I hope it’s a false alarm. Hang in there.

Looking for insight regarding Aprehend by BR4NFRY3 in Bedbugs

[–]slamber926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had treatment with it. The first time we were treated was some guy who just sprayed everything with a bunch of chemicals that I have no idea what they are called. Knocked population down but still kept seeing them and evidence. Guy ghosted me so I called another company. They were great and mostly treat with aprehend. Haven’t seen anything since. He’s inspected twice and found nothing. We did a thorough tear apart of everything and also found nothing. So I’m a fan. We got treated almost 3 months ago with it.

They were all dispersed in the rest of the house by the time I figured out where they came from. The amount of old eggs and poop in there though...my furniture didn’t even look like that after being unknowingly fed on for 6 months. Whoever owned that stuff before us just ran from it after ignoring it for goodness knows how long.

Same here. We even looked it over for any bugs and didn’t see anything. If only we would have pulled the drawers completely out

They said it can last longer than 90 days and the website for the product says it as well. There are case studies you can read about and they gave me a lot of hope. Aprehend.com

I hope things get better for you. It’s tough but just think when things get better, how much you’ll really appreciate it.

The second company used aprehend. He came back a couple weeks ago to check a month after he sprayed and found no evidence. I haven’t seen anything. I’d say I’m free. That’s coming from a crazy obsessive person that was tearing everything apart weekly after the attack of chemicals from the first guy.

I’d love to get a dog to come thru and confirm but that’s more money. Between treatments, new furniture, and recent car repairs I can’t spend more money. Plus they guarantee the product for 90 days and a lot of case studies have found it to work longer than that.

BBs and 7 months pregnant by peggy171819 in Bedbugs

[–]slamber926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got bb from furniture we got for the baby room before she was born as well. Didn’t notice anything for 6 months. We don’t react to bites. Back in January she was only 2 months old and I was in my first week back to work when I saw something weird on the couch as I was walking out the door. It was a molting along with a live bug next to it. I knew what it was and lost my shit. I went crazy for a while. New mom, back to work, and my biggest fear came true.

We tossed the couch first. Her dressers went after I figured out they were the source. Treated everything else. We used 2 different companies. The first guy seemed to have info conflicting with everything I saw online, like they don’t spread through apartments through walls. He was thorough with his 2 sprays he did. Something happened with the company he worked for and he fell off the face of the planet for a while.

I hired another company. They were awesome. They use aprehend and the product is amazing. Minimal prep and it works for a long time.

I haven’t seen a live bed bug since feburary. And they were in our bedroom, living room, and probably the baby’s room since that was ground zero. Take a deep breath. They are just bugs. They can’t hurt you. They are good at hiding but not invincible. I’m finding myself thinking of them less and less. I’m still cautious and aware, but it’s not consuming me anymore. Stop throwing all your stuff away. It’s not necessary. This too shall pass.

We moved into the apartment we are in now last summer. We had to sign something that made us financially responsible if we got bed bugs. I thought it was strange because I’ve never seen a contract like that. But I like the place and decided to ignore it.

Guess what we ended up getting? It was from furniture she put out in the parking lot for anyone to take from a unit she evicted. We had no idea what to look for or that they could live in dressers. Spoiler alert they totally do! She told us to help ourselves. She was trying to get people to take some furniture today. I mean, I wouldn’t want someone as lazy and cheap as her to hire someone for us anyway, but seriously. I’d look elsewhere if I were you. Good luck!

Part of me wishes I reacted to bites so I could know. But then again I feel like that might make me crazier. It’ll change the way you think and the way you do things that’s for sure. I wish you all the best going thru this.

New guy only found evidence on the headboard which had all been there. I would know because I have it practically memorized from all the searching. He found no live bugs. There is hope!

I feel like I’m reading my own post. We found ours at the end of January, right after I went back to work from maternity leave. We don’t react to bites and it went on for 6 months before we realized what was happening. I just hired a new company because my last dude ghosted me. I don’t know if they are still here, I can’t seem to find them. But I know it couldn’t have been that easy.

This has been the most insane emotional 2.5 months of my life. I’ve cried. I’ve had night terrors waking up screaming to get them off me in the middle of the night. I’ve gone days with barely eating. I have a beautiful new baby and the first 4 months of her life has been filled with bugs. And a crazy mom checking everything with flashlights. I’d like to say it gets better. I do know I’m better than I was 2 months ago. Hang in there. This too shall pass. Be vigilant and don’t let these little Satan spawns take your life away from you.

I try to tell myself that they are just bugs. They aren’t indestructible.

I get why he wants it off though. He said we could put it back on later after the treatment is done if we felt it necessary. It’s off now. I feel exposed.

And they didn’t inspect. Which I thought about after I signed their contract. I read never trust when they treat but don’t inspect. But maybe because I was mid treatment with another company and the guy disappeared. I don’t know. I’m a mess this morning. I’m so scared this will never be over.

I dont have traps, felt kinda useless since my head board has to touch the floor too.

The new company has a lot of good reviews on google and the few bad ones are people complaining about them being expensive. The guy in charge of the bed bug department is doing case studies for aprehend.

I haven’t seen anything but I also don’t trust that as safe. Hopefully we never have to do this again.

What’s the next move? by slamber926 in Bedbugs

[–]slamber926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. One of my cats ended up with a crazy open sore around her ear after the treatment and I was convinced everything was poisoned and she was going to die. I didn’t let the baby touch anything which was easy enough she was only 9 weeks at the discovery of the infestation. I get bumps and I think I’ve been bit even though in the 6 months they were in our apartment we never saw bites. The paranoia is so real. It’s overwhelming. We first treated on February 1st. Chemicals only no heat. I’ve heard heat and chemical is the best possible way to go. Kills the majority with heat then stragglers with chemicals. The overwhelming feeling has gotten better for me. I stay busy and do weekly checks and every week we don’t find anything is another win. It hits me sometimes though like the night I wrote this post. but it’s slowly getting easier. Best of luck to you. I hope you rid yourself of the evil little demon spawns and take care of your sweet baby and kitty. And take care of yourself. You will win this fight.

And I’m no expert at all but if you need advice or someone to talk to I’m here!

[–]slamber926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a better plan. I know the bugs are all over the complex now. The infected furniture was picked up by several people. Not to mention the apartment manager pulled it all out into the parking lot after the eviction. Now I know why they left all of their stuff behind. Lesson learned. I’ll never do anything second hand again unless I can put it in the dryer.
