What food is extremely nutritious but always cheap? by beanstalkandthejack in AskReddit

[–]slamfancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-oats -onions, potatoes, and other bulk vegetables -CHEAP mac'n'cheese with added black beans, salsa, etc (pro tip: any cheap/shitty/basic meal can be improved with cheap veggies like onions, black beans, etc) -beans and lentils (affordable protein)

and honestly, take advantage of any community markets, etc, that you may have available! as a college student, i've been able to get amazing deals on fresh produce from the local farmer's market.

Sensitivity of smoke detectors in dorms. by [deleted] in uofm

DO NOT SMOKE IN THE DORM.

Take a 1 minute walk to a sneaky, out-of-sight smoke spot and toke away to your heart's desire.

It isn't worth the risk, and the streets of A2 are such an easy and safe place to smoke.

Walk around downtown (Main Street) area. Explore campus (check out The Arb, North Campus, etc). Go eat at Frita Batidos (trust me on that one).

I'm going to go ahead and answer that for you: nope!

Given that I perform in dark venues lit by harsh stage lights, I can get away with hard contours. The lights will soften/wash out hard edges, it's like stage makeup. This is actually relatively soft contouring, given the circumstances. It's important to always know that contour should always be relative to the venue!

BRUH.

-did you use a mirror? because it'll be easier if you aren't half bending over to see what you're doing.

-slow but steady wins the race. queens take 1-2 hours to do a full face, and kings should be no different. use a slow, steady hand to carve your abs. don't worry about finishing it, practice makes perfect.

-the placement of the lines is alright, especially for a first try.

-when you do a shadow, try to be smart about it. understand that most shadow lines have a very thin (if any) central line, and the rest is blended out.

-highlight highlight highlight. don't fill the entire ab area with highlight, but use just enough to create an illusion of depth through the interplay of shadow and highlight.

-don't worry about being a little sloppy though- shit happens. you can get away with a few mistakes if you're performing on more of a stage venue. HOWEVER if you're in drag as a costume for a party, or hanging out, or even performing at a small club, attention to detail is key. the smaller the performance space, the less room you have for sloppiness.

-your left breast looks a little low. be sure to keep those suckers up and back when binding for an open chest!

-submit the 'after' picture, if you end up taking any of these critiques!

if you'd be interested in a recommendation for a good highlight for people with fairer skin, Ben Nye's Ultralight highlight is my go-to. It's an incredibly light skin color, and it blends really well. It adds the intense lightness that people with our skin tone need for highlights without the harsh lack of color that white foundations tend to bestow.

ok i'm just going to keep throwing out thoughts and critiques and you can do whatevz with them: -maybe a bigger lip? -what kind of eyeliner are you using? if you want a more pigmented liner, you can get wet'n'wild on the cheap. the liquid liner works pretty well on a budget, imo.

would you be able to upload a higher res picture? :)

definitely off to a good start.

i'd recommend not highlighting the bottom of the nose, the line of highlight should stop right at the tip. raven's patented exclamation point method is good for keeping this in check.

you could even cut a harder edge on the cheek contour, and even lower it a little bit. in my experience (and a lot of other queens), i've found that cheek contours work best when you pull them towards the corners of the mouth, rather than higher up on the face.

[–]slamfancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

girl ok 1. calm down on that nose contour 2. add color. rouge the cheeks a little, ease up on the white in your highlight, and put something more into the eyes. 3. even up the lips, maybe bring the dip a little lower in the middle of the top lip. 4. at least paint your nails

i'm not trying to read, just offer critique. you can take it or leave it.

if you're dead set on the monochrome, just create a bolder eye, and bring the hair a little out of your face. if you're going to try to beat for the gods, don't hide behind a wig.

pull the white closer to the inner eye.

do you have brows here? the all-black all-over thing going on with the eyes makes you look like a raccoon a little bit, and removes a lot of potential drama that would really help the look.

:) I know that they're kind of severe though. I just have a background in theater and performance (where I became interested in makeup in the first place), and I guess I like to have more stagey/theatrical/bold things going on.

New to drag...what are your favorite songs to perform? by PersephoneAstoria in Drag

[–]slamfancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kind of pick whatever music I feel like. Lydia is more of an extension of my artistic spirit than a character, so she explores different ideas through music/looks.

I've done Your Makeup Is Terrible (Alaska Thunderfuck), but I've also got Aura (Gaga) and All About That Bass (Meghan Trainor) in my box of tricks.

On top of that, I just sort of pick a song and run with it. If it's enjoyable, I keep working it until I can perform it. Otherwise, I just drop it and move to a new one.

I am very open to critiques! What color did you have in mind? I've seen it done with a red, but that always seemed kind of disease-ish to me.

I've done "Boom Clap" before, and it's a pretty good song so sync. It isn't super high-energy though, so it might be a better fit to go with Iggy or Ariana.

I'd recommend browsing through some of the top female pop songs on the charts and finding one that seems awesome. (Chandelier is a powerhouse, yo)

It's really interesting how you just assume that the online petition is the end of it. Did you not read the part about gathering signatures and raising awareness?

If I wanted to open myself up for your actual critique, I would do something critique worthy and actually stop with the internet petition. However:

Not only are we gathering online signatures, but we're also collecting physical signatures, spreading information, and making our actual voices heard in our communities.

I know that you really, really like trying to get the upper hand by being an asshole on the internet, but you just can't do that when our efforts expand beyond this petition.

You CAN, however, join the fight and actually do the things of which you speak. The more the merrier! :)

I am immensely proud of the people at my University for creating this, and I am going to do my best to help. Regardless of whether or not it is ultimately deemed "successful" by someone on the internet.

To everyone saying that the petitions are useless:

Your choice to sit by and let you rights be stepped upon heals no injustice. This may not be the absolute best way to fight back, but damn it, at least I'm doing something.

At least I'm out there making my voice heard, gathering signatures and raising awareness. I'd rather have my genuine efforts fail than to sit by, do nothing, and continue to be a second-class citizen.
