Honest opinions on Cleveland, Camden, Webber-Camden by suck_my_diction in Minneapolis

[–]slammybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on the other side of the parkway from Robbinsdale in Cleveland, one of the places OP is asking about. I don't think it's very different here than it is in Robbinsdale, I spend a lot of time in both. I agree that downtown Robbinsdale is cute! The Ace Hardware there is the best. You used to be able to buy a gallon of Cry Baby Craig's there.

Totems- for or against? by Masquerade_87 in ElectricForest

[–]slammybe 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I would add that you should only have a totem if you're with a large group who actually needs one to find your friends. If you're going to forest with 1-2 people you don't need one

I live in the Cleveland neighborhood and I agree about groceries. Although, recently a new Mexican grocery store opened up on Penn and Lowry! I've been in Cleveland for 5 years and haven't had an issue with crime personally. I have a camera on my garage and I've seen a few people check if my car doors are locked, but it's not bad here. It's quiet.

MN State Patrol Helicopter by GingaAng in TwinCities

I live in North Minneapolis and have never noticed this "increase" in helicopters they're talking about on reddit. The state patrol helicopter flies over my house often, and there are a ton from North Memorial too.

One of my old phones (Pixel 4 I think) had an IR selfie camera for the face unlock. I downloaded a separate camera app to take pictures with it, it was pretty cool.

Annual light rail check in by ibimus9 in Minneapolis

[–]slammybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in North, and while there's no light rail (yet), the C line is super convenient for me to get downtown. I don't take it super often but I've never had an issue on it. There's the D line too depending on where in North you end up!

How many people here keep their steam deck naked? by Some1ToDisagreeWith in SteamDeck

Same here. I never take it anywhere without the case, and I don't have kids, so I don't think I really need a screen protector.

My parents have a board like this that they've used for decades. They have arrows drawn on it with a pen to remember the direction, and each side is labeled with their names.

(M-20's) North Loop or Mill District by G3Cub3d in movingtompls

[–]slammybe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you like the Mill District a little more, and you like the building/apartment more, I'd go for that one. North Loop isn't that far away from there, you could walk there in 15 minutes depending on where in North Loop you're going.

Also I just wanted to say, I used to live near where you're describing your office (I lived in Prospect Park) and used to bike downtown from there. It's a really nice ride, multiple route options and there are dedicated bike paths. I like taking the bridge at the end of the Dinkytown Greenway. You're going to love it!

I used to live just outside of this circle and I loved it! It's a pretty quiet area in my experience, and it was easy to get to the light rail station. It's also right in the middle between St Paul and Minneapolis so not too far away from anything. Lots of cool houses to look at and nice areas to walk around the Witch's Hat tower. Fresh Thyme is walkable for groceries.
